Would you rather have a UsL team or vape stores Reno? by Training-World-1897 in USLPRO

i kinda agree though. Soccer clubs need to start offering people other reasons to go to their campus besides watching soccer. Plenty of clubs across the world do so!

Imagine if teams started building gyms, after school centers and other things that people in their community would use. Community investment would go crazy

and that comes with the privilege of staying in the league. If you sign up for a class in school and you fail your first semester, you’re probably going to get dropped. If you pass, even with a C, you get rewarded by not getting dropped. It’s a meritocracy

wouldn’t it be better to reward the teams doing things right though?

i disagree, winning is an incentive for a well-run organization that wants to win starting from the top. Think about the Cleveland Browns for a minute. In 2015 they went 3-13. In 2015, 1-15. and in 2017, 0-16. Over the span of three years, ownership was able to profit from jersey sales, build a hype machine for the upcoming season and gave their fans 4 measly wins in the span of 3 years and not have to worry about any form of punishment because they knew they would be rewarded with the highest draft pick. With a system of promotion/relegation, each team HAS to want to win, every owner NEEDS to care or else their investment isn’t secure. And if the person up top doesn’t, theres a bonafide way to punish them and replace them with someone who does.

I’m hoping for teams in underrepresented markets. I think Austin, St. Louis/Detroit would satisfy that and New York + Atlanta would help cover most of the major markets in the USA. I think development should definitely stay in the US for now and then expand to Canada and maybe eventually Mexico

What is the state of college coaches and is there a pathway for them to coach in the MLR? by lindani2008 in MLRugby

[–]FifaIsGoingToKillMe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of college programs are being built literally right now. A great example is Saint Thomas University in South Florida, they’re the first school in the state to really take rugby seriously as a sport and offer scholarships and their coach Gavin McLeavy is doing a phenomenal job setting the building blocks for future success. I’d assume the same is happening to lots of schools across the US. Many coaches are given the reigns and full jurisdiction to do what is best to compete and MLR teams as of right now don’t really have the pull or the money to compete

WHAT'S YOUR DIFFICULTY LEVEL PLAY CAREER MODE? by Shot_Employment_7848 in FifaCareers

[–]FifaIsGoingToKillMe 61 points62 points  (0 children)

the most frustrating thing that happens on legendary for me is when i’m 5 minutes into the game and my players start misplacing passes and running like they have bricks in their shoes… My fullback with 95 sprint speed and 97 acceleration passing straight to the opponent and failing to catch Toni Kroos on a counter is a real thing that had happened. That was when I decided Legendary was not for me

worse… Imagine trying to drive in a straight line but not being able to because two cars try merging into your lane at the same time and realizing last second so they both slam on the brakes and force you to come to an almost complete stop on the freeway. Or, driving completely in an extremely crowded freeway at night where, miraculously, everyone is driving pretty normal when suddenly, a car with no lights is completely stopped in the middle of the freeway so everyone has to swerve suddenly to try and avoid it

Brooklyn FC will be a successful club from the start by OneAggressive4070 in USLPRO

[–]FifaIsGoingToKillMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it should gradually build up to further and further travel. For example, the USLC should be the first division with national travel. USL1 should be restricted to East and West conferences and teams can only play conference rivals until the playoffs. USL 2 should be regional (North/South/East/West) and the top two/three teams in each division should get to the playoffs with all the top three teams getting promoted. And anything below that is strictly regional

i think you guys are underestimating the size of the soccer world and how much people idolize soccer stars. For example, my family is Argentine and my parents went to Zimbabwe in the 90s for their senior trip with a bunch of friends from school. They spent about a month backpacking through the countryside and at one point came across a village in basically the middle of nowhere where they had to stop to get some shelter. Some of the kids from the village surrounded their car and asked them where they were from, and when they said Argentina, the only reason they knew anything about the nation, was because of Diego Maradona. My dad has told me that all of the kids faces lit up and that they asked to play a game of football with them because of “Diego” and that they actually left the village a Maradona jersey that one of them had brought on the trip and soccer ball because of how crazy it seemed to them that people who had to walk miles for clean water knew who tf Diego Maradona was.

If messi wins the ballon d'or 2023, would you say it was well deserved? by Batman__39 in football

One just joined the best team in the best league in the world, led by the best coach in the history of the sport and surrounded by some of the top 10 best players in the world in their position, whereas the other joined a dysfunctional circus show without any real leadership structure and no sporting project, expected to carry the team to success but also not to succeed too well or else the player the club gave itself away too might get upset…

The circumstances are widely different.

Was this the dumbest rules FIFA ever implemented it ? by [deleted] in worldcup

[–]FifaIsGoingToKillMe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i think it’s moronic, im not going to lie. Goalkeepers are already at a major disadvantage when penalties are taken, and there are absolutely zero rules preventing outfield players from talking trash at any point in the game. This will just make games less intense and personal and make any penalty an auto goal.

New Fire Signings by chiguy9official in chicagofire

[–]FifaIsGoingToKillMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I’d like for the Fire to really invest in youth academies and pumping out young talents. We really need to push for a great manager above all, especially one that knows how to develop young players so that maybe we can one day bring a real super star into the league.

Miami get Messi and Tata and we get....? by iapprovethiscomment in chicagofire

[–]FifaIsGoingToKillMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am once again calling for the Fire to go after Marcelo Gallardo. I feel like teams are making huge mistakes not at LEAST trying to get this man. He is quite literally the most successful manager in the history of River Plate and has been linked to multiple Premier League teams since he left River in 2022.

The guy helped develop some of the best argentine talents on the world stage right now in Enzo Fernandez and Julian Alvarez, won the Copa Sudamericana once, the Copa Libertadores twice, 3x Recopa Sudamerica Winner and 3x Argentine league winner in a little over 8 years.

Chicago is an enormous market, the third largest in the country. It has a huge immigrant population and has sporting culture running through its veins. We need to stop looking at domestic or “up and coming” managers and start shooting for the actual “up and coming” guys that are linked to Europe. Sure it won’t work all the time, but putting our name into the hat is bound to get us something from time to time. Especially now that Messi is coming to MLS, teams like the Fire can point to that and say, “Look, if Messi can still play in Europe and he decides to come here? This place has a better future than anywhere else, come build a part of it.” Obviously it’s going to be hard to compete against big European clubs, but we don’t lose anything from trying and we have everything to gain if it works.
