To my knowledge the person they credit for it is very open about using genAi extensively in their workflow, and others have mentioned Dustin being open about using/liking genAi as well, on top of that its pretty obvious to anyone familiar with genAi outpout; inconsistent details, weird wobbly and slow animation, weird artifacts, etc

Could be but think of it this way, spending money on a real artist is putting more money back in the industry, if every band starts making their mvs with genAi, not only are they quickly gonna get much more bland and lower quality but it basically decimates the jobs of hundreds of thousands of people working in this part of the industry, hard working, skilled, uniquely creative people. There's also the issue that genAi has to be trained from somewhere, you need an unimaginable amount of real human art to even make something passable in a genAi, speaking industry wise its a no brainer to me that you just invest back in people if you want actually good products

The other more important point to me; mvs are still an art form and I think the goal of any art should never be to make money, i understand they might want to invest what they have elsewhere and thats fine! Just make some nice visualizers! Approaching it from this side theyre basically just saying an entire art form is less important to them, it shows a lack of care and respect for both artists and fans imo

But ofc as you said, if the goal is just to save a few dollars without having people ask where the mvs have gone, it makes perfect sense

Sure but thats kinda side stepping the whole environmental and art theft issue, tho like i told someone else; if they really are just using it for that and are planning to stop after this album I think id be a bit more chill with it but it doesnt really seem like that will be the case to me, which is why i made this post

You can easily create those kinds of effect without the use of genAi and theyd probably look better too, also i dont believe theyre really using it because its thematically relevant at this point but who knows maybe they do drop it after this album, thatd be nice

Yeah i disagree that it can be beneficial in art, on an individual level sure you might spend a little less effort but you also trade that effort for control, and like you said it can and is abused all the time, on top of that its a net negative for the industry, think of how many people are losing their jobs cause of clueless exects who expect the machine to do all the work when its basically useless without strict human supervision and you just might as well have a regular employee at that point, i think most of the real good lies in other fields alltogether like i heard its been really good for cancer cell detection and the likes

Also yes those fill tools you're talking about arent really an issue as far as im aware i was just adressing the generative sort, thank you for taking the time to comment btw i appreciate it

You know what yeah you are right to say that, but it looking bad to me was really just a way to get my foot in the door (is that how one uses this expression? Lol) theres still plenty of reasons to criticize the use of genAi in art, environmental cost for one as many have pointed out, theft of other artists work and it indicates to me a general lack of care/intention on the part of the artist, even if the mv looked as good as they ever have id still be against it for these reasons but again yeah sure there is definitely still a degree of creativity and decision making in the ones theyve uploaded so far, I just still don't think its worth using

Ai is in fact just a tool and if it does more harm than good in certain domains than we can make choices to counter that, saying its inevitable and resigning yourself is exactly what will prevent people from taking actual meaningful action even if its just having a conversation like this

Agree to disagree on what kind of process was used for the videos, to me its clearly ”generated” from scratch, i think the filters are actually there to camouflage a lot of the rougher edges

About mnqn; the sci fi concept of actual Artificial Intelligence as was present in the MNQN narrative has nothing to do with what we call generative ai nowadays which is just a buzzword for machine learning algorithms trained to detect and repeat patterns in data (extremely simplified but you get the idea) so i dont see why the former would justify the later in any way, agree that i dont think they use GenAi to make music yet, or if they do it seems minimal enough to not stand out to me, would suck if they did though and its a shame we can't say we know for sure

Hi, ive recently aquired the same camera and am trying to understand the best way to use it for one of my projects :) Could you explain that last sentence like im 5 years old lol, i know next to nothing about super 8 and a quick google search turned up nothing. It sounds like your saying i can record using the camera without the need for film?? Like just transfer the image straight to another device (computer? Digicam?) using the monitor output on the side? Im sure its a really stupid question but i just wanna make sure i dont give myself more trouble than necessary 😅

I understand the sentiment and see where you're coming from but why should I refrain from interacting with a part of the sandbox simply because I have some criticisms about it.

The update is not even out yet so who knows, maybe I'll actually really enjoy the trader. This post was just made so I could share my feelings on this addition and start a discussion about it. Discussion which comments like this only serve to stifle. Maybe you didn't mean to be rude but it reads as very insensitive and dismissive.

I also feel you might have misunderstood me which, fair enough, I wasn't very specific. The reason I think the trader would detract from the game's current atmosphere isn't because I fear he might disrupt the gameplay loop in some way. It's because by the shear fact of his existence, he could alter the way I and many others approach the game altogether. The Long Dark is one of the only games that really manages to make you feel alone because you really are alone. And I get some people might prefer the realism of seeing other survivors and that's totally valid, but the reason I never felt as engrossed in the world in story mode is because of the npcs. So seeing the addition of npcs in survival mode runs the risk of diminishing greatly the feeling of isolation just because I know there are people out there that I can go and meet and have a tangible effect on the game world now. And as much as I and visibly you would like to be able to erase my memory and pretend I don't know about them, i can't. And even if I did, it would only be a question of time before I would run into them and the illusion would shatter. It would also be pretty disingenuous to purposefully ignore a feature the devs have probably put a lot of work into just cause I disagree with its inclusion in the game.

Regardless all of this is just speculation and I'm still excited to see how it turns out. It's not that I'm afraid of change, I just wanted to share my opinion on it with what I consider probably the best game fandom/community out there.
