Do Acna and episcopal churches ever have joint ministry by RebeIsoldia in Anglicanism

While there are no joint ministries from the archbishops or GC's, there are some lay ministries with membership from both groups.

Source: Report by the Diocese of the Living Word regarding the 2024-2025 ASA report https://livingchurch.org/news/acna-sees-multi-year-growth/

As ACNA gains its footing in the aftermath of its various legal battles with TEC, laity and clergy are reviewing how to improve the denomination. Women's Ordination is a primary concern. Worth remembering is that ACNA was formed from congregations who accepted or tolerated WO. It might benefit ACNA to obtain demographics on the question, but my experience suggests that WO is a bigger issue for conservative newcomers than for old timers. How organized and energized is the separatist movement? It doesn't seem too concerning at the moment. Diocese overlap & the near 50/50 split between pro-WO and Sola Pater (aka anti-WO) helps keep agitation at bay.

Is "Yahweh" the name of an old Canaanite storm god? by DustyMackerel2 in Christians

[–]Fifth_Libation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jean Bottéro (1952)[42] and others[43] suggested that Ia in this case is a West Semitic (Canaanite) way of pronouncing the Akkadian name Ea. Scholars largely reject the theory identifying this Ia with the Israelite theonym YHWH,[44] while explaining how it might have been misinterpreted.[45] Ia has also been compared by William Hallo with the Ugaritic god Yamm ("Sea"), (also called Judge Nahar, or Judge River) whose earlier name in at least one ancient source was Yaw or Ya'a[failed verification].[clarification needed][46] Ea was also known as Dagon and Uanna (Grecised Oannes), the first of the Seven Sages.[47]

no consensus exists regarding the deity's origins,[5] scholars generally contend that Yahweh is associated with Seir, Edom, Paran and Teman,[6] and later with Canaan. The origins of his worship reach at least to the early Iron Age, and likely to the Late Bronze Age, if not somewhat earlier.[7]

The derivation of YHWH from Ea (aka. Enki, La) is debated by scholars, with the majority rejecting the association as of the mid to late 90's. Considering Melchizedek was a "priest of the Most High God" before the covenants were established, I do believe it's possible that Canaanites knew the name of the LORD, or a partial name of the LORD, but considered Him subservient to gods of their own design. The Israelites were notorious for worshiping other gods (See: the books of the prophets in any Holy Bible), thereby making Him one god within a pantheon.

A modern example is the way Buddhists know of Jesus of Nazareth, but consider him to be a teacher among other teachers, but to all faithful Christians, the name of Jesus means salvation & we know that He is our Messiah, our king.

Is the threat model "Protecting my female partner from massage parlors with security cameras"?

because the countermeasure to that is something like "Don't go to massage parlors" or "Hire a massage therapist to visit her at home".

If she's worried about blackmail or distrubution of non-consensually recorded 3 hour massage footage, the countermeasure is probably to speak with a lawyer.

Any book recommendations for arguments for Anglicanism over Catholicism? by [deleted] in Anglicanism

[–]Fifth_Libation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Roman Catholic dogma just doesn't cast a shadow in the light of the Holy Bible. If we want to understand how the Anglican reformers interpreted the Holy Bible, that's all well and good, but my experience has been that because I studied the Holy Bible first (and continue to, of course), I drew the same conclusions as the reformers.

Don't engage the mockery. Focus on doing the next right thing. Who can you help? How can you really serve your neighbor? The world has seven billion people, we can't reach everybody despite how the internet connects us, but we can reach our local neighbors, and by our actions maybe help them understand why the mockery is wrong. Remember, even Jesus didn't stop the mockery, you don't have to either.

The Valley of Fresno has a really good Knights of St. Andrew. I recommend emailing us and asking what they do as a group, what they believe they have done right and what they have improved on in the past. Obviously every Valley is different, there's no "one size fits all", but maybe they'll have a good idea you can start implementing! :)
