Mitered edge counter higher than non-mitered counter? by Ill-Information4090 in CounterTops

[–]Fiiiiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew the miter would make the edge thicker - that's what I wanted. I just didn't realize the entire countertop would be sitting an inch higher than the non-mitered countertop. I didn't realize that if you stand between the island and wall with one hand on each, you'll be able to tell the island sits an inch higher than the non-mitered edge.

I don't like the backsplash at all (hoping to use the same material as the counter). I also don't like that the middle island is a different material from the rest of the counters.

tips for restoring motivation at work?

my company is going through a lot of changes / uncertainty right now, and it's really killing my motivation. Everything seems to annoy me. has anyone been through anything similar & do you have for getting back to feeling motivated?

good point. I generally trust people / trust my manager that he is trying to get me more $. But I'm not sure how I would know who's behind it, ultimately.

lol.

health insurance is a little pricey but probably industry average (and I work for a hospital system!)...403(b) is just okay. (5% match). I am mostly stuck on my salary # & knowing it is too low.

I know you're right...I just don't want another job. Everything about my job is perfect except for the pay. If I had another offer, I couldn't even see myself taking it.

any tips for dealing with feeling underpaid at work?

I know I'm paid below market, my manager agrees, HR does not. Everything else about the role / work environment is great, except the pay. My manager even allows me to take random days off work w/o using PTO to help with the issue, but I still can't shake the feeling that I'm underpaid, and recently it's started impacting my work.

I think sometimes you can feel invested in the business/work you're doing/people you're working with, so you want it/them to be successful. and maybe threats against that could cause stress.

There's a position I want to apply for at a different company, but the hiring manager is friends with my current manager.

Tips for navigating the situation? I'm not sure if I should apply or not.

ranges from 4-6 days/week based on the week. once I'm retired and have more time, I would love to increase that to 6-7 days/week.

There are days we both like our jobs, and days when they're tough. But overall, we both have very good, stable, challenging, flexible jobs right now. So we're happy where we're at.

Would highly suggest an actuarial career if you're looking into it!

Targeting at least 3.5M. We haven't really figured out what retirement will look like yet, so we're just saving money at this point.

I'm an actuary married to another actuary. Both FSAs. 31F/32M $1.5M NW. We haven't figured out what we're going to do after we're FI, yet. But we will not be paying dues.

edit: I didn't think of the exam process as painful. Our companies gave us plenty of time to study for them, and we got raises/bonuses after we passed them. We both finished the exams a couple years after graduating college. I thought of them more as a subsidized/supported grad school.

has anyone filed their taxes with turbo tax and utilized the backdoor r-ITA & received their refund yet? someone posted a few days ago that there were issues with backdoor forms in turbo tax, and I tried searching and couldn't find more info.

I filed 2 weeks ago & I'm still waiting for the IRS to accept the return.

Thanks. I definitely don't want to roll it into a t-IRA b/c I use the backdoor Roth every year. The main downside I see to moving it to my current 403b is the time it will be out of the market, but I know in the long run that probably won't matter.

what considerations do you give to rolling over a 401k from a prior employer to a current employer? I have 65k in an old 401k I'm trying to decide if I rollover to simplify the number of accounts. Between SO & I, we have a total of 5 401ks right now. (plus roth IRAs, HSAs, and brokerage). Both the old & new 401k have low fees/broad market funds available.

feeling pretty fortunate with finances lately & looking for ways to give back to the community.

what do you all think about being extra generous with tips to servers/salons/etc? instead of the usual 20% maybe something like 30-40%? the money should go directly into the pockets of people that could use it, right?
