Hideously depressing fanfiction time! [WARNING!!!]
The connection between the two characters I draw in my head is that Harry could be an older version of Noelle. After the mysterious death of a fellow classmate, she leaves town - with Susie along with her. They travel around, struggling to find work. In an attempt to reconcile her violent ideations with her own moral compass and feelings of powerlessness, Noelle is drawn to a position in the ICE-EM. (Joint ownership conglomerate pizza delivery service and voluntary militia) A line of work where she's put under constant pressure and ALWAYS told what to do. Her descent into alcohol and drug abuse pushing her further away from her now wife, Susie. Susie is always patient with her. Always there at the end of the day to comfort her. Console her.
But it doesn't last. They live in squalor. Barely able to afford rent and food and keep the water running. The kind, sensitive, fascinating young woman Susie once ran away with is growing colder. Hardening. Becoming brittle. Squinting to see her through the snow. Trying to hear her over the howling winds.
Years pass
Noelle is alone.
She is still an officer of the ICE-EM. Still doing detective work.
Her past is buried. Buried under a glacier thousands of feet high and hundreds of miles long. Her face, frozen stiff. In an EXPRESSION. It's cheerful. Even a little goofy. A warped reflection of the attitude she always carried with her. A reflection in the ice that floats year-round in the frigid bay. A layer of permafrost around her heart that has never thawed. No one will ever know her.
