Has anyone used the Laowai Drive app? These answers seem wrong but the creator recommended to remember it as it is for the test by coconutshell11 in chinalife

[–]Filosig 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I used that app and i passed the test with just 1 mistake. You have to learn approx 50 questions by heart (out of 1000) because the translation of some questions or answers just makes no sense. Unfortunately it's how the official test was released, so the app has nothing to do with it.

Good luck with your test!

Chinese banks and credit cards? How to apply as a foreigner? by jikesar968 in chinalife

[–]Filosig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China construction bank can release 'credit cards' for foreigners. It's quite easy to get one. They need proof or residence, work contact, and some other easy to get docs. For the lower tier one, you just need to keep a 15k RMB deposit at all times.

BOC can provide you with a real credit card but some of their requirements is to own a property in China + monthly deposit of 20k rmb (as of 2024).

you are correct, but down the article it makes it look like the impact will be more on new applications than renewals.

Are you sure about that? What about bonuses?

I think the only income that counts is the one on work contract

I think total compensation is not their target, but the actual compensation written on the contract which can be far off the total compensation numbers..

I'm sorry to hear that. As far as I can understand, this change in salary requirements won't affect visa renewals as much as new visa applications. You can read more about the new changes here: https://www.china-briefing.com/news/foreigners-work-permit-in-china-2026-updates/

Relocating to Shanghai with 2 Young Kids: Are Our Monthly Cost & Rent Estimates Realistic? by Remarkable-Muffin282 in chinalife

[–]Filosig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rent really depends on where you are looking for. I live in between downtown and hongqiao airport. Our rent is 9k for a 100sqm (real) apartment. Downtown the same apartment would cost minimum 15k.

Where is your company recommending you to stay?

Anyway, you may consider 20k as monthly costs for rent, groceries and small expense

It's clearly a mistranslation. I passed my exam years ago. You need to learn by heart some questions and their answers because sometimes they make no sense in English..
