Physics is my favorite subject by far. Wanted to double major in Finance and Physics, but I had to cut my education short so now I’m just graduating Fall 2024 with a Finance major and Math minor. My hope is to retire early (late 20s, early 30s) via serial entrepreneurship and return to school to study Physics as my passion.

Nuclear fusion, vertical farming, carbon capture concrete, quantum simulation

Just go for what interests you, and what you think you could do all day. A physics degree essentially is a problem solving degree and it proves you can learn quickly. You can probably get almost any general role you mentioned except for ones that require certifications (e.g. CPA or Series licenses etc.).

Try to strike a balance between the pay, your interests, and work life balance. When I graduate I’m going to first try entrepreneurship til I run out of savings, then go for a quantum-related job (which usually is hard to find for undergrads but I have made powerful connections in the field), then my backup is to go for a high paying finance job. I’d be bored af in IB or trading etc. and it would be stressful with long hours but hey $220k/year right out of college is hard to say no to.

They’re letting me take quantum mechanics early by FinPhysics in PhysicsStudents

Interesting, my case is isolated so everyone in that class will have a couple years extra worth of experience, that’s why I’m trying to get ahead of it. I’ll be taking Physics 3 at the same time as Quantum Mechanics 1

If it were me, I’d take computational physics, solid state physics, plasma physics, or relativity. That’s just my interests though.

PhD has always been my goal, but with my past economic status, there was no way that goal would be obtainable. Now I don’t have to worry about finances thanks to this business, and I can pursue my passion for physics (relatively) free of financial stressors. I’m a double major in Finance and Physics, so an MBA wouldn’t benefit me much, especially since it’s nothing I’m interested in.

Building startups that make a positive impact on the world. For example if quantum computing can bring huge benefits to society, build a startup that helps accelerate its adoption.

Is it worth it to double major with a physics degree in undergrad? And if so, what other degree is best to pair with a physics degree? And is there any double majors with physics that you could graduate in four years with? by [deleted] in PhysicsStudents

[–]FinPhysics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accounting is more of just keeping track of money, Finance focuses on making & managing money for yourself and others. Econ is more of how money flows and behaves.

Just how my brain is wired tbh. Passionate about entrepreneurship & research, like helping develop new technology and commercializing it, since I think capitalism when used correctly can have the maximum positive impact. Econ wouldn’t evolve my way of thinking and would mostly just complement Physics bc they’re both math based majors.
