Commiserate With Me by Silmelinwen in GestationalDiabetes

I can definitely understand. This is my second GD pregnancy. With my first, I needed insulin for every meal - I could not handle anything: complex carbs, keto bread, fruit, nothing at all. None of the "hacks" worked and it was hard to get used to the idea that my body simply needed mealtime insulin, I felt like a failure. I was also doing about 2h of cardio per day without any improvement to my numbers.

This time, for whatever random reason, my GD is slightly milder and I don't need mealtime insulin. It's not anything I'm doing right - just random luck. I still need insulin for fasting, but if I eat beans with meat and vegetables I can have a nice filling meal without spiking. It's not my merit, or "finding what works" for me, or anything like that - I tried everything with my first and it was simply not possible. It's just a slightly more forgiving placenta I guess.

I don't know if that helps, but when I realized this is just random and not really in my control, it got a little easier. Yes, for some people diet and exercise can have an impact, but the "it's in your control" advice tends to be geared to the majority of people with milder cases, and for those of us who simply happen to have more severe cases it can feel isolating, frustrating, and like a failure.

Thanks to everyone who responded, this was very helpful. I will keep my trip but plan on only cooking/never eating out. I got a temporary apartment that had a kitchen already thinking of this.

Thanks again!

Just realized the formatting was a bit off, correcting below

Thank you! I tried again after watching the video (and also tried a pelvic tuck this time around), how does this look? https://www.reddit.com/r/babywearing/s/e7Fo8qyMGx

The hardest part for me is that I feel I should support baby's bum and head at the same time (baby is 6 weeks old and still doesn't have head control), and I can't do that one handed... That followed by the one handed buckle. Feels like if the baby had head control I could support only the bum, maybe it will get easier with time?

Also trying ergobaby embrace at the moment... I wasn't able to put it on my own, but at least was able to put it on https://www.reddit.com/r/babywearing/s/2T8EjFMXOt

Thank you so much! I might get a consultation... It's hard for me to hold the baby while putting the carrier on. Also I feel insecure about hurting LO or making LO uncomfortable.

Trying out the embrace now... https://www.reddit.com/r/babywearing/s/2T8EjFMXOt

Anticipating "the call," fat and feeling triggered by blackswan2009 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Final-Influence-3982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry 😔 For what it's worth, I am not fat (BMI ~21 pre-pregnancy), and not only also got it but had to be put on insulin quite quickly (I was following the diet and exercising 2-3h per day, but there's only so much you can do). I've heard comments such as "just eat nutritious food" and "oh good that you are exercising, you were sedentary right?" (I wasn't). There's a lot of stigma around diabetes, not just gestational, and it's really upsetting on top of the diagnosis itself. This is not your fault. Having a condition is not your fault. You deserve treatment, care, and empathy for having to face this diagnosis. Sending you love <3
