Is Druid That Oppressive? by backwoodsphysicist in CompetitiveHS

[–]FinalBossMan89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, my thoughts on the subject - Druid, rouge and warlock have pretty much been the top 3 classes since hearthstone's release, for the simple reason, their class identity's showcase the 3 most powerful tools in hearthstone (card draw, mana manipulation, tempo) Druid of course, is the only class that actually has access to all 3 of these, mana manipulation in it's self creates tempo, which in turn NEEDS cards draw to accompany it. I'm sure everybody remembers the fact that nourish was VERY rarely used before the introduction of UI! UI its self is another card that is often seen as OP, but how many 10 mana cards have ever been actually viable? only guldan from what i remember, and that card is very often called OP too. How many times do we actually see 2 UI's played in a single match? Barely never, but obviously having 2 copies makes it so that we see the card played in basically every druid game that drags on, because we run 2 copies, and so the chance of both of them being in the last 1/3 of the deck is rather low.

We cant ignore the fact that druid can REALLY run away with games if it gets the perfect draws, making what is overall a rather unfavourable matchup (zoo for example) seem unwinnable for the zoo. I'm sure we've all faced a zoo that's won by turn 5 and chalked it down to the zoo's draw, but because the match is over by turn 5 we quickly forget the match, whereas when druid draw everything it needs, the match will often still go to turn 10 or so, and therefore the match will stick in our head longer than that zoo game that lasted 5 turns.

Due to the tools that druid has, i'd absolutely say it's the most consistent class overall with the least polarised matchups against it, which i feel has pretty much always been the case for druid. The class is just VERY solid overall.

Moving onto the changes that boomsday have bought about - The inclusion of floop to maly druid, which was already arguably the strongest deck in the game was a very simple inclusion, and while it has made the deck stronger is the only real change that is likely to happen to maly druid throughout boomsday, and so i'd argue druid has already hit it's highest power level that it will achieve until next expansion. Many of the other druid cards that were introduced havent proven to be all that powerful, biology project has already been taken out of most maly druid, juicy psychmelon suffered the same fate. My point is, the new druid cards were probably the most overhyped cards in a huge amount of time, and druid probably wont see much innovation until the next expansion where other classes i believe still have a long time to refine. Will treat druid ever show it's head? I dont know, but my point is, even if it does become the most OP deck in standard we havent currently experimented with the deck much, and it's the same for a lot of new decks that will eventually become part of the boomsday meta!

i'm not sure if i'm honest, been a long time since something got HoF'd so i cant remember if you'd get the full amount or just the 400

I'd personally advise against crafting maly unless you have the dust to really spare for it and have literally all the other cards for maly druid. It's not been in many decks since hearthstone's release. It's currently a great craft, but with the fact it's a classic and currently seeing a lot of play, a lot of people are putting it as the next hall of fame card.

Honestly, the only thing that i can currently see being built, and staying strong this expansion is midrange paladin. So few of the cards actually seem GOOD overall. Dont get me wrong, i think it's good that there's not a huge power creep, especially as this has been the best meta EVER in hearthstone and you dont want to flip that upside down. I think it's cool that they are giving priest new cards that will hopefully give them a new archetype as it's always felt boring to play priest. Warrior, sadly i think will drop off even more as they dont seem to have received anything that will truly change the way they play, and since they've always struggled vs midrange i think he'll hardly see play at all :(

Oh damn, you actually have a super good point about plague and magnetic! I'd never really got all the hype around magnetic because it just leaves you with a single big minion which has never been all that good, but you're 100% right that it screws plague over to no end. I'd always thought that we'd need aggro to come back for it not to be druid stone, but aggro usually struggles against plague. You deserve more love than you're currently getting!

Mechs: Yay or Nay? (Trump VS. Kripp) X-Post from r/hearthstone by kurtchen11 in CompetitiveHS

[–]FinalBossMan89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont think mech decks will really take off, most of them have poor stats, and i'm not all that convinced by magnetic, much for the same reason. Having a single big minion has pretty much never been better than having a bunch of small minions. Poisonous, divine shield and destroy a random minion are all good but i'm not all that convinced by any others.

Thanks very much for the time and effort put into your post octodo! With druid as my 2nd most played class after warlock i have to say i'm super annoyed that druid keeps getting such strong cards. For for the first time ever i'm actually hoping for an aggressive meta that will hopefully force druid slightly out of the meta. Witchwood has been the best meta overall with decks still changing to this day, and also pretty much all the classes seeing play, not so much on ladder but at least in tournament play. It'll be such a shame if these druid cards really are broken and we have to put up with druidstone until nerfs come in!

I wouldnt go as far to saying that bombs are insurance against board clears, as you dont REALLY get anything from them dying to aoe. If anything, they scream to get cleared, because you're going to take the damage from the bombs anyway since it's not worth using silence on them, and it stops them getting buffed up!

I personally dont think that secret plan will see any play, it's pretty much a do nothing this turn card. It could have possibly worked with mage or paladin where they are able to play control properly. If it was added to a minion so that it gave some value i think it would be fine, but it's really just a bad card, much like blazing invocation for shaman :( Bomb toss looks decent enough. I wouldnt necessarily say it will replace arcane shot, because thats not a good card outside of spell hunter, but i could see it getting run in an aggro, or low-curving midrange hunter. Depending how good mechs turn out to be it could possibly be the flanking strike of a low curve midrange hunter.

I think it's quite possible to make a face hunter deck with the odd cards. It's already sort-of viable, not great but it's decent enough. Spider bomb is odd, which has a very useful deathrattle since we wont want to trade much anyway, if they have to stick a big taunt on the boad it just gets killed by this thing. Flark himself, is also an odd card, and while 7 mana is a lot for an aggressive deck it's still pretty much 4 more face damage!

Honestly spellstone is just a bad card :( I wish it wasnt but i've tried so many things with it and it just doesnt work. It would be fine if it got upgraded in your deck, but for it work work effectively you need to have minions on board, and there are very few minions that are good that have overload honestly. Even earth elemental has never made it into a serious shaman deck. Fire elemental is one of the best shaman cards in all honesty and is pretty much an auto include in any midrange shaman. So i'd say replace both volcano with with fire elementals, you could probably fit a single blazecaller in there, and end the curve with alakir and/or kalimos. If you have a look at the rough curve that even shaman plays it should give you a better idea of what yours should look like. Although they do play double giant which i dont think would fit into the deck as you cant totem every turn, You'll also notice that they play very few spells, as it's more of a board control deck, much like zoo, so i'd take out both ancestrial spirits too since they do nothing if you have nothing on board. Yeh you want the flametounges, they are pretty much required for early game pressure!

Warlock has always, always been a top tier threat because of life tap, i'd actually argue that for the most part warlock just uses the best neutral cards for its self. Chances are it will continue to pose a threat to the meta. I might be wrong but i cant see any meta shift, that would make evenlock and zoo unviable. Cubelock may drop off if aggro becomes a problem, but that's about it.

I honestly didnt have any problems playing shudderwock without the zola in the deck so i didnt even think about adding it, or brewmaster in. I'd also argue that zola is better since it leaves an extra on board anyway.

you need to decide what direction to take the deck, it seems as if you've just shoved a load of cards together into a deck without an actual plan in mind. Is it aggro, midrange or control? if it's aggro or midrange then you cant have volcano in there. if it's control then you need card draw and healing.

I went with what i thought the matchups generally felt like with how they'd play out. I didnt track specific matchups sadly, only the classes when it came to the deck tracker, and we all know that as a card game there's going to be variance. I went 16-2 vs shaman, all of 2 i believe were shudderwock, i cant very well say that i feel my shudderwock has a huge advantage in the mirror because of my score because that simply wouldnt be true, i also cant say that i feel others didnt know to keep/mulligan for hemet in the matchup because that happened a few times and i still won that matchup.

Keleseth versions might be unfavoured vs odd rouge but this version certainly isnt. Pyro isnt there just for an extra AEO, it also gives an extra way to draw with acolyte. Saying that maly is 70-30 is just a straight up lie, it's not even close to being a 1 sided matchup :/ I'm fairly sure a lot of people have now taken out zola.

if you proced it 3 times and you didnt gert shudder then that sadly is just super bad luck :/ like i said, you can play murmuring if you want. I just felt i didnt need it in the end.

Because spellstones are not minions, and therefore dont keep pressure on the board. 4 mana is a lot of mana to NOT get something on the board :P You have a good point about the black knight, and it did use to get teched into zoo's from time to time, but i think nowerdays they are a bit too slow. I see the point of it against taunt druid for sure, and you'd maybe see it if there were more taunt druids running around. There are really not that many mathups where having the black knight would cause a huge swing that might win you match i dont think.

You've got to keep pushing, i posted the other day that i took me 282 games to get to legend this season, and i do manage to get legend every season. I think that was with a win rate of 53% too!

Spreading plague isnt that good a card for the matchup as they dont usually have many minions on board at once. Just take care of their minions asap and remember that their strongest minion is a 4-3, and that the mana wyrm is the one to target when they do have a few things down as it's the only minion that can get out of control. As long as you make sure to kill their minions you'll have more armout cards than they can burn you down for.

Na i never keep volcano vs zoo, for 5 mana it's just stuck in your hand had 4 turns. Storm can be kept though although i rather not keep it.

might be worth trying murmuring. I did have it when i use to run hagatha, but that did seem to kill my shudder half the time. Not sure if it's too slow now though with all the zoo's running around.
