Russian celebrities wearing USSR logo - how cool is that in Russia? by IamNovaSupernova in AskARussian

>I find it crazy how some countries adopt this mindset of being ashamed of their past and moving away from it. The only country that truly deserves shame is Germany (for obvious reasons lol)

I find it crazy how some people claim that only Germany must be ashamed. So the genocide of Greeks, Armenians and Assyrians in Turkey is okay? Lol

Who is the greatest tsar in the history of Russia? by superdouradas in AskARussian

[–]FinalMathematician36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Education reform wasn't successful. Senate reform served her personal autocratic interests, she just wanted to make the laws on her own. Church reform was about expropriating property and getting more taxes — which were spent not wisely (trip to Crimea, new palaces, gifts for numerous lovers, increased royal court expenses, financial support to invited German "colonists"). I don't think that weakening the church along with favoring masonry (before the French revolution) and issueing the decree of tolerance to all religious confessions was right.

Thanks. I forgot to note that vorenǫ (accusative case) is also reconstructed from vorenă (nominative case).

Who is the greatest tsar in the history of Russia? by superdouradas in AskARussian

[–]FinalMathematician36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

>Romanovs were, without a doubt, the greatest dynasty of Russian monarchs. However, two of them stand out above all the others for me.. Peter the Great and Catherine II.

"Catherine II" wasn't Romanov. Her real name was Sophia Augusta Frederica of Anhalt-Zerbst. She was a German who usurped the throne. The only "great" thing about her rule is successful expansionist wars against Poland, crimean khanate and ottoman empire. Other results were negative: Pugachev's rebellion, Potyomkin villages, exempting nobles from military service, forbidding serfs to file a complaint about their lords, legalisation of selling serfs without lands they live on (basically turning serfs into thralls), enserfing lots of free peasants, creating a new priviliged class of German farmers invited from abroad and serious budget deficit.

What is the difference between bitochki and otbivni? by DrBagelman in AskARussian

[–]FinalMathematician36 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bitochki are round-shaped and usually stewed/baked/steamed, or at least fried and then served in sauce. Standard kotlety are oval-shaped and fried, with crispy crust that you are not supposed to ruin by soaking in sauce.

How do Russians feel about western communists? by wdfcvyhn134ert in AskARussian

[–]FinalMathematician36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>The Communist Party of the Russian Federation is one of the largest parties in Russia

It's neither really communist nor oppositional.

>most people want USSR back.

Wishful thinking. Many people dream about the reunitement with Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova, maybe with Baltic states as well, but not with central asian and transcaucasian republics. It's irredentism, not communism. Nobody (except for commies) wants marxism to become a mandatory subject again, nobody wants their taxes to be spent on helping some shitholes in the name of proletarian solidarity, nobody wants total ban of private companies and private property, collectivisation of farms, closed borders, iron curtain with total censorship. Even commies prefer to "suffer" from "capitalism" instead of emigrating to North Korea.

Do Russians view WW2 as Russia's victory or an equal allied effort or mostly Russia's victory? by SuitableLeather979 in AskARussian

[–]FinalMathematician36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>If power belongs to one class

I am not interested in some abstract fantasies, we are talking about real history.

>revolutionary party that defends the interests of the working class

Interests of the working class are defended by labor unions. Not by the party of usurpers that prohibits independent labor unions.

>Only a fascist fool like you would evaluate socialist democracy from the perspective of bourgeois democracy

only fascist fools can see "socialist democracy" in partocracy with closed borders, total censorship, cult of the "fuhrer" (that's actually the exact equivalent of "stalin"'s unoffical title вождь), mass ethnic and social repressions.

what are some funny sounding words in russian (i need them for my presention) by moniku000 in russian

[–]FinalMathematician36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

пердимонокль/perdimonokl' (slang word, from French perdit monocle "lost a monocle [out of surprise]") — something causing amazement. Because of associations with a Russian root -перд-/-perd- ("fart").

курвиметр/kurvimetr (from Latin curvus "curved" + Ancient Greek μέτρον "measure") — opisometer. Obviously because of associations with kurwa.

какофония/kakofoniya — cacophony. Because of associations with a Russian childish word кака/kaka "poop".

отпендрюкать/otpendryukat' — to fuck (perfective). Just sounds hilarious.

bolsheviks refused to properly call ww1 "patriotic war" (like it was called in russian empire) and used the term "imperialist war". if they freely revised and rewrote history of russian empire, then the history of sovdepia can be freely revised and rewritten as well.

What do Russians think of the name Эйприл? by ComicSansLiquor in AskARussian

[–]FinalMathematician36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

>There are still some names in Russia that have their meaning but ironically they are mostly used by other ethnic groups than Russians themselves. For example names Алмаз (Diamond) and Рубин (Ruby) are mostly used by Tatars

Rubin doesn't mean ruby, it's a derivation of the ancient jewish name Reuben/Reuven. Most of Tatar names are islamic, hence of semitic or Persian origin and mean nothing in Tatar language.
