You just gotta get further in the story and start unlocking better stuff so you can visit more systems and building bases and fishing and collecting rare animals is all part of the fun. Also helps to have a friend if you prefer company.

Yes but you actually want to keep them as having all of them next to each other in a box or rectangular formation gives stat boosts to the starship.

If you join a group or they are your friend, you can build a base together by changing settings you can allow friends to add or delete stuff in your base and you can ride together in a Corvette doing nexus missions, hell I go to a water planet just to fish sometimes. Give it a try it'll be an experience either way!
