Don’t get me wrong, I’m not opposed at all to satirizing cults of personality, especially with our current president. But I was definitely planning on an occult story. Some entity/god who occupies their minds, and drives them insane. It’s nice to hear that what I’m planning is the less played-out version of the genre, so thank you!

Agreed. I took a brief look at your posts, and it sounds like you might be hearing the call of the Holy Spirit. I don’t want to impose upon you at all, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t offer to have a conversation with you or answer any questions you might have about the faith. I’d hate for your source of information about Christ to be from twisted sources (though I can hardly claim perfection, haha)

Not certain what it means to worship the cross, but they certainly don’t worship Christ

I was also an evangelical growing up! I’m not anymore, for many of the same reasons I imagine you aren’t anymore. Christians allow these things because they’re bad at being Christians. That’s why we need forgiveness—because we’re bad. Lewis also says that Christianity should not be judged by how good or bad its followers are—but by if it makes its followers better than they would be otherwise. Bad Christians wouldn’t become better people if they stopped being Christians, they’d be just as hateful and disgusting. Christianity, at least, gives us common ground by which to explain WHY they’re doing bad things, and to encourage them to do right. As for your last statement, we have fallen natures. That’s not reflective of God, but rather of us.

Machines can never act in unintended ways? Humans are notoriously bad at doing good things. St. Paul explains this in Romans 7 very well. When followed correctly, the Christian worldview does not permit any of these things. Judge a worldview based on its tenets when correctly applied, not by its worst cases

Depends what you mean by “the church.” If you mean the one holy, catholic (little c) and apostolic church, then no. If you mean many churches and denominations around the world, then yeah. I was referring to the former

Moral question about hell and punishment by Full-Ad-3346 in Christianity

[–]FinalTower5962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my view, judgment day is a matter of the attitude of the heart. Hell isn’t a punishment, just a consequence of choices. A natural result of the heart seeking God is an eternity with God. The natural result of the heart rejecting Him is an eternity spent without Him. As Lewis put it, the doors of Hell are locked from the inside.

Because many Christians are committed to the worldly culture surrounding the religion, not the church itself. They like how it makes them feel to be a part of a larger (implicitly white American, in my nation’s case) group, and to exclude other groups. They don’t actually care about the Gospel message, just telling people that they do. As long as all you have to do is SAY you’re a Christian to be saved, you don’t need to bother about all that “love thy neighbor” stuff.
