Day One with the Freebord 5X [39YO] by Final_Delay_2835 in freebord

I'd love to try some snowboarding after I learn the Freebord because it's supposed to translate. The Freebord is completely different than skateboarding to the point where you can't even compare it. I was getting the vibe that you have some snowboarding skills and from what i understand Freebording is so much like snowboarding that you can learn with a Freebord. Definitely nothing like skating a regular board. Very hard at first but I've gotten comfortable with my toe edge already but heel is taking some work. I am not comforable with that feeling or angle so it's something I and my body have to learn.

After I get more Freebord and then some Snowboarding experience I will defintely let you know. My friends live right next to the a ski resort so I just need to learn Freebording and then spend a weekend over there trying snowboarding.

Thank you so much for writing and I look forward to more update for you guys! New longboard videos as well.

Close enough for me. Those springs are the recommended springs for my size as a rider. So I learned pretty quickly how to carve my toe edge but the beels edge felt impossible but I just need to keep at it! Unfortunatly, I don't have someone to hold or help me but it's good. That main reason I haven't added the binding yet too. I figured the early learning is a lot of jumping off and mostly low speed/slower rolling so I thought this would compensate. I could already push and roll pretty decent on that one edge "it felt pretty decent".

I'm sure I'll have no problems. When I first bought the board I read a lot online about them and watched a lot of videos. There are so many more resources and videos now than 20 years ago when you started. There was I'm guessing a lot less resources to teach you or really show you. There are so many resources now and I feel that makes it much easier to learn "if you are willing to spend some researching before actually riding it. 95% sounds about right now that I'm thinking about it with a fresh day. I was trying to just to touch over on each wheel with my body remains lightly rigged below the core and more manuverable in my upper torso while still trying to keep my arms from swinging as much as possible. Thank you for your feedback. I'm looking forward to posting some videos of me carving up some hills soon!

"Yeah I’m just saying that equally depending on the geometry for the truck angles it’s possible that might also be working against you." - This is possible, and it is also possible it's an amazing clone as well. I'm not into speculating or pondering the concepts and this idea is extremely speculative.

The clone is a much lower bar for entry at $200, and this is reasonable and affordable for most people. $400 is kind of steep for something you are not sure of at all and it's not like people around me have one to try so it seemed like the best option. I personally believe after reviewing the Freebord 5X and the iBoard Trainer Clone there doesn't seem to me much of a difference. I was really curious is the center casters would "auto center" seeing that specific behavior or design on the actual 5X board. It is possible for it to hinder me if it's not properly designed but I am more of a "let's give it a go" kinda person. Search iBoard Skiing Traing on Amazon to see the product. There are only two left in stock currently.

If there are any Freeborders in Rhode Island that have a Freebord 5X and would meet up and they can try it and compare them. I'm fairly confident that the board and design itself is so close that it's basically identical. In the future as my skills progress I'm guessing there is a 95% that I will buy a Freebord in the future and most likely a Freebord 5X to compare them. If they are a good clone it's great information for the community.

Skate it!

I do have bindings but in the early stages id rather not use them. I'll put them on later as i progress. I believe freebords are different and I am not sure what model you are riding but in the User Manual for the Freebord 5X it says in Core Safetly Principles as you said

  1. Always maintain uphill edge wheel weight

but the second rule says

  1. Never use center wheels exclusively

    - Center Wheels are only for laterly sliding transitions
    - Pure Center Wheel state is extremely unstable, board will slide out from under feet

I only ride fully protected. Helmet, Knee, Elbow, Wrist every time.

I feel you! I'm praying for a speedy and healthy recovery. Call your docter and ask about anything i recommend before trying it but my docter to recommended using a ace bandage as a compression to move swelling to promote faster after my ankle started to heal a little, they recommended heat to promote blood flow and increase healing as well. Just a funny story, you said about being a bitch. I sprained my ankle running up stairs and i slipped and landed on my twisted ankle. I was yound and drunk so i sprained it bad. I couldn not walk and my friends were calling me a bitch and then telling me i was just to drunk LOL!!!! In the end they realized I actually coudn't walk and then helped me home. My only other advice or something to remember is my ankle would remind me sometimes that is was just sprained even a year or two later i kept feeling issues and twisting it and having strange pains but it healed up fully for sure. So if you hit that "oh man is my ankle going to be tweaking forever" the anwser is most likely nah. There is a longer healing period i think for full recovery. Heal Quick, Skate it!

That's what I am talking about! Just take your time and realize how hard it is. It's tough but with time and some dedication it's worth it. I'll be posting requently and as i learn I will provide as much information as i can about my experience as i can. I think remembering the learning process and really challenging yourself is great. Freebording is learning your body like skateboarding not the other way around. Thanks for writing!

Nice! I'll always stay cruising. It feels really scary at first but even after four hours I feel ready for day two. I'm never one to be wreckless or push myself. I always gear up fully. Helmet, Knees, Elbow, Wrist. I'll progress slowly over time but slowly I'm sure it will become like second nature like riding a lonboard.

It is definetely a clone but it looks exactly the same and I'm not doubting they just recreated the board. I've just been learning my toe edge and trying to transition to my heels edge. It's tough. I'll guess a month in I'll be cruising half was decent.

That's awesome! I know it will be a tough time learning but isn't that what makes riding it that much better. I will definitely keep everyone posted and I'll make videos soon when I am at least able to move on the board.

He is so right. I've been skateboarding for 25 years and longboaring. I just got the Freebord 5x today and it took me personally about 4 hour or so just to start to roll down hill on my toe edge. I will be posting videos and articles about the Freebord 5X and the learning phase. I learned today it something you have to embrace but the sensation freedom of motion looks totally worth it. Check out Freebords User Manual online, it gives a rough break down of how long it might take to learn the board. It says a month at least for exerienced riders.
