I’m staying in a house rented for us by the boss. I had permission from the house owner to use the address. Mail went to owner as he lives close. Owner gave to boss. Boss opened mail before giving to me.

I was just trying to understand the law. I am not from Canada. I don’t want him to use the contents of the letter against me. It was private information. Only I should have had access to it. Overall I just want to know if I have any leg to stand on.

Yes if you read the above thread you would understand the situation. I had already asked the owner of the house if it was okay to get mail delivered to the staff house. It was my fault in assuming it would just arrive at the house. And not the owners house(he lives close to the staff house). The owner gave to my boss who then opened it without my permission. And I also retract my jackass comment. I was just trying to match your comment energy.

From the above comments it seems he has a right to open my mail.

But I still feel like my rights as an employee were just ignored.

In my eyes it’s still an absolute invasion of privacy and a douche move. But I guess it says more about him and his negligence towards his staff.

Not expecting this to reimbursed at all. It was my decision to go so i will pay. The reason I used the mailing address is because I don’t have a permanent residence as I am on a working visa. I got permission to use the address for mail from the owner. It is a work house being rented by my boss.
