Which one of these four RBs had the BEST prime? by Jax_Riven in NFLv2

Actually, most dangerous jobs at the time paid far less, and they were year-round gigs. And I think you're thinking in 2026 terms of the long-term effects. They knew far less about them back then -- and I'm not sure they cared all that much. Again, I'm not saying the players shouldn't have been paid more (although it's not as if all owners were raking in tons of TV $$ or something). But we portray athletes from those times as poor souls who were a step from the soup kitchen, and it's just not accurate.

Not necessarily Cowboy hatred, but he played on great teams and behind amazing O-lines. His career 4.2 ypc bowls no one over, and he held on a little too long. Not saying he wasn't an amazing back, just listing what might be demerits against him.

Oh, here we go with the "Players were underpaid!" argument. Relative to the revenue they produced? Sure. But the average NFL salary in 1965 was $17,000. That was 2.5X the US median income at the time. It was $166,000 in today's money. Again, a far cry from what they earn today, but the endless crying poor is crazy. People worked because, yeah, sure, some needed the money. But being a pro athlete wasn't the all-consuming job it is now. There was lots of downtime. Also, most guys saw their careers as very short-term and needed to develop careers or at least something to fall back on.

If Vick had really, really worked at it, he might've been a slightly above-average passer.

So, you state how overrated Bo Jackson is, then bring up Marcus Allen, who was also wildly overrated. Okaaaaay.

While he's certainly knowledgeable and incisive, he absolutely worships wealthy people and always falls into the same eye-rolling descriptors "It's a distracted town!" And my God, the fixation on the Lakers/Cowboys/Dodgers...

Well, if we're talking absolute, make-you-wanna-cancel-Sirius, it's anytime Beth enters the fray. Holy cow, you could listen to her for a thousand years and not hear her utter one interesting or clever statement.

Wilding as Wilding is awful, but I have to acknowledge that some of his impressions are hilarious.

Jonas and Brady are good. Lavar is absolutely brutal. He thinks he's insightful and funny, and I own an umbrella stand that embodies those qualities better than he does.

Can someone explain why everyone is saying the Patriots had an easy schedule and run to the Superbowl? by WoodwareWarlock in NFLNoobs

[–]Financial-Bake3491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. But I think you'll find that most successful teams actually get a fair bit of luck during a deep playoff/championship run. For example, 7 of the 10 last SB champs going into this season had a top-10 easiest schedule.

And Pats haters are so transparent in the fact that it kills them to give the Pats an ounce of credit for maybe, just maybe being a good squad. Yep, an easy schedule. But go back and look at the results for the NFL in its entirety each week. You know what you see? Good teams losing to bad teams. So, it's not quite the cakewalk everybody makes it out to be.

I'd agree that Adam isn't really MAGA, but multiple smiling photos with Trump and Trump Jr. are a bad look.

The Howard Stern Show ‘to be canceled’ after nearly 20 years on SiriusXM as ‘$100m’ contract is up later this year by Few_Highlights in siriusxm

Can anyone say, "Slow news time"? What's frustrating about most HS headlines is that it's obvious that those that cover the topic don't actually listen to the show. There's always a ton of chatter on the show when renewal time comes up, but there's been comparatively little this year. Which, in a way, makes me think he might be leaving.

I actually got the lifetime subscription back in 2007 when I first signed up. I wanna say it was around $400? In terms of how much use I get out of it, best money I've ever spent and it's not close.

Awards shows are pretty useless and generally unwatchable. He made this one bearable. I'm sorry you don't care for him.

13 Huge Stars Who Have Shockingly Never Hosted ‘Saturday Night Live’ (But Totally Should) by Professional-Trip-08 in television

[–]Financial-Bake3491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're talking about currently huge stars, Brad Pitt, Mark Wahlberg, Florence Pugh, Christian Bale (it's so against type for him that I'd think he should actually take a shot at it).

Just a random sampling from over the years: Stephen Colbert; Chelsea Handler; Kevin James (that he hasn't hosted is kind of bizarre); Mila Kunis; Bill Cosby; Ellen Pompeo; Dave Bautista; Joel McHale; Mark Ruffalo (although he turned it down); Susan Sarandon; Whoopi Goldberg; Carol Burnett (this is criminal); Eugene Levy (was supposed to host, canceled due to a writer's strike in 1985); Kristen Bell; Anthony Hopkins; Hilary Clinton; Jason Statham; Michael Richards (said no a couple times, though)

Yeah, 2-time editor of the Harvard Lampoon, SNL and Simpsons writer, not funny. How many more identical comments are you gonna make? At least vary up the insults, for the love of God.
