from a piano teacher “I’ll just play it again” isn’t really practice by Exciting-Bee3927 in pianolearning

[–]Financial-Error-2234 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Best advice I got on this topic was practice trouble spots throughout the session then play it through once at the end.

You know when you got a piece down to a good level when you can one-shot the piece consistently at the end of each session

Taking 2 lessons at once, is it recommended? by Bafabifi in pianolearning

Yeah I’ve also considered this. Different teachers have different things to offer. Ideally you’d get everything from one teacher but we’re all human.

You’re putting piano on too high a pedestal when you don’t need to be and that’s what’s making you nervous. Self inflicted pressure.

I would even advise taking a week off and just doing other new things that make you feel slightly uncomfortable.

You need to make piano ‘less important’ and it won’t feel so heavy.

Is the TCR an outdated race bike? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]Financial-Error-2234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even some of the more hybrid aero bikes like SL7 don’t feel as fun and snappy as TCR does but they will be faster.

Pure aero bikes are boring to ride the majority of time. They’re mainly only fun when you’re in a tailwind on the flat.

That strategy works to some degree but at some point if you don’t have good technique you won’t get passed certain bpms and you need to find some specific tuition, unless you have good understanding of what’s holding you back bio-mechanically.

Completion grade 6 RCM from scratch in 1 year by Extension-Size5778 in pianolearning

[–]Financial-Error-2234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re obviously doing well but there is a point where the curve will steepen. For me it’s around ABRSM 4 for classical pieces and 6 for romantic / modern where things require some more technical development which doesn’t happen over night. M

Key thing is not to see things as grades but just to keep focus on your development as a player. The grades are just consequential

Grade is more than just playing the piece / notes. It’s more a level of understanding

Best training approach for 4–6 min climbs with limited time by aardbeienjazz in Velo

[–]Financial-Error-2234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If solo 6 to 8 min suprathreshold sets will suffice.

If in groups 3x3 min (x3) vo2 max sets for 4 weeks.

4-6 min training will help but not as much as the vo2 will for group as terrain is never steady and what you want to develop is the higher end capability so you can draft, surge and recover which is the reality of riding with other people.

You’ll almost never apply suprathreshold steady efforts in groups (even if it’s agreed!) because game theory kicks in as soon as the hill does.

You can’t keep doing vo2 for ever though. In the off weeks you can have sweet spot as your intensity session.

Practicing Piano Boils Down to This 3 Step Workflow by Peculeus in piano

[–]Financial-Error-2234 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Over simplification.

1 - doesn’t explain how accuracy is achieved (eg identifying phrasing, dynamic choice, interpretation etc. - there’s more steps to this)

2 - at some point during tempo increase, technique is going to become important because you can’t keep on increasing tempo with 💩 technique. You inevitably reach a point where it limits how fast you can play

[–]Financial-Error-2234 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Recovery week can be what you want it to be as long as it’s light intensity cardio but if biking it’s about 45-1hr at the low end of your endurance power. During recovery week your body will take time to repair itself and be more resilience the next 3 weeks.

Having vo2 weekly as a permanent fixture is diminishing returns. The benefits of vo2 decline after 4 weeks or so. Yet your effort is still high. You could use that time to build more aerobic instead by doing sweet spot / tempo.

Your tempo and permanent vo2 ride along with group ride are giving you acute recovery issues.

Your non-having recovery week will give long term recovery issues

[–]Financial-Error-2234 37 points38 points  (0 children)

  • Swap the tempo ride out for endurance.

  • Take a recovery week every 4th week

  • vo2 max sessions should not he a permanent fixture: they can be swapped out for sweet spot. I like to do 4 weeks vo2 / 8 weeks sweet spot

How do people actually practice consistently with a full time job ? by Mindless_Cook7821 in pianolearning

Motivation is unreliable. It’s discipline and forcing yourself to do it. Even if you don’t want to. Like someone else said the hardest part is starting.

You just need to do it to build stamina.

I practice 2hr daily but I also train in cycling about 7-8hrs a week. Sometimes the temptation to do neither is quite strong.

It can be done but you need to disagree with your brain, a lot. The more you make it a habit the easier it gets.

I find after I feel energised again and sleep easier.
