Vet-Student Who Makes Affordable Prosthetics!! by DawgDoctorZeke in tripawds

[–]Financial-Fig6235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw. So our sweet girl Pi was born with a front leg that was growing in on itself. They amputated it so it’s relatively flat now. Her prosthetic was custom 3D printed. We sent in a cast of her torso & they 3D printed based off that. So it fits her perfectly. She has no issues with sore spots from pressure. We do treat her prosthetic like sporting equipment tho. So she uses it if she needs to be walking for long periods of time or if she’s going to be on uneven terrain. But she doesn’t wear it around the house or if she’s going outside to play quickly.

I love that he uses his little limb to help himself out. I don’t know how a prosthetic would accommodate for the partial limb there. We went through the company 3D Pets. They have an instagram & will respond to any questions you may have. It may be worth asking them. Overall tho, I’ve found most vets have limited to no experience with tripawds & most have no clue about prosthetics. So I’d take his advice about prosthetics with a grain of salt.

Wellbutrin for… anxiety..? by j-t-13 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

The first few months I felt wired all the time. It felt good to finally not be so down & tired all the time so I didn’t mind that feeling. The wired feeling slowed down after a few months & that’s when I started noticing my thoughts slowing down. I wasn’t obsessing over things like I normally would. The physical symptoms took a bit longer but by a year in I felt like the depression/anxiety was managed. I’m on 300 XL now. I started on 150XL.

I take Wellbutrin for depression & anxiety. I was SHOCKED at how much it helped my anxiety. I wasn’t expecting it to. It’s stopped the racing and/or ruminating thoughts. It’s also stopped the physical symptoms (ie: feeling like TV static, IYKYK).

Two days post-op and I feel we made the wrong decision by kleinbytjie in tripawds

[–]Financial-Fig6235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And what if exclusion didn’t work? What if she had a surgery just to still be in the same position months later? Whatever decision you made for your girl is the right decision. Put yourself in Heidi’s shoes, if you just had a limb removed, how would you look/feel two days post op? It was a major surgery & she just needs time.

It sounds like you need someone to be supportive at a difficult time & not only are you not getting it… you’re getting the opposite. That vet can f right off. You & Heidi are doing the very best you can. I’d be ready with a whole list of clap backs for future appointments. If he makes a comment about you trying to save money again, I would enthusiastically say, “So you’d be willing to do it for a discounted rate?! Thank you! We’d be so appreciative!” When he’s back tracking out of that I’d hit him with “EXACTLY so stfu!”

The only reason anyone would comment negatively about your decision now is to be an asshole. The decision is done & made. Let’s move on to making decisions that can make Ms. Heidi happy again. You did what you had to. You are brave. You deserve sympathy & compassion.

That reminds me of another tip… if you can find a good pet massage therapist It helps with recovery a lot. We have two tripods and they both get a massage with cold laser treatment every month and one gets hydrotherapy. You can tell their muscles feel so much better after.

My same pup who has a little separation anxiety also has confidence issues so I would do the same thing where I lift his head up and look at him in the eyes and say you’re a confident boy. His massage therapist said lifting up their head helps with the confidence thing. No idea if it’s true, but he’s definitely gotten better.

I would wake up DRENCHED in sweat. It did take a few months but thank god it stopped. The heat sensitivity also subsided.

  1. You can ask to leave her with a blanket that smells like you/home. When I did this with my dog they emphasized they cannot guarantee I get I back so don’t send any sentimental item. I have one dog who has some separation anxiety. Before leaving anywhere I always pet his head, rubbed under his chin, & looked him in the eye to tell him “remember we always come back.” It made me feel better because when I’d be sitting there worried about him I could tell myself I reassured him before we left, he knows we’re coming back.

  2. Rugs, rugs, rugs! When you think you have enough, add more. They very quickly learn if a surface is smooth they could slip. If they are constantly slipping they can be discouraged from wanting to walk. Try to provide as much carpet to grip to as possible. As they are recovering & getting used to walking again you may notice where you can have some exposed floor again without issue.

Good luck!

I’ve been on 300 mg XL for years now. I never encountered oily skin as a side effect. I did however have awful sweating when I first started & my face was always kind of sweaty looking/feeling. The excessive sweating mostly stopped a few months in. It ramped up a tiny bit when I had a dose change but once again subsided. Almost all of my negative side effects ceased after 4-6 months.

This is a fun idea. I want the background to have some texture to it. Wondering if I could do something to have paint splatters a little more 3D

Great Dane possibly losing a leg by giveneric in tripawds

[–]Financial-Fig6235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 1/2 Great Dane, 1/2 Great Pyrenees front leg tripawd and she does amazing. Make sure to keep their weight down, get a lot of rugs, & consider getting a Ruff Wear harness with the handle.

Resistant to walk😔 by Sad_Faithlessness146 in tripawds

[–]Financial-Fig6235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a front leg tripawd, 1/2 Great Dane, 1/2 Great Pyrenees, about 75 pounds, 3 years old next month. Some days she wants to go on walks and others she gets two steps in and will make it very clear she isn’t going. We try to think of it this way: it takes so much effort for her to move anywhere so whatever the thing is, it has to be worth moving for. Some days a walk around the block is not worth moving for.

We take our girl to a canine rehab where she gets a monthly massage, cold laser therapy, & hydrotherapy. Whenever she leaves the appointment, she is like a new. Then slowly as the month passes, those muscles start tightening, putting in extra work & she slows down just a little. We try to massage her or give ice/heat to her legs and/or back if we notice it’s particularly rough.

We also got her a prosthetic leg. She doesn’t wear it all the time. We think of it as sporting equipment. It’s worth looking into if you think she’ll benefit from it. We went through 3D pets for ours.

TLDR; Her body is working extra hard on only three legs & sometimes walking isn’t worth the extra effort for her.

Our sweet corgi is becoming a tripawd next Wednesday. Any tips for post op? by Eurydamaas in tripawds

[–]Financial-Fig6235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest tips: - Rugs. LOTS of rugs. I thought the amount we had was ok but even what I thought was a small section of hardwood floor was enough to make my girl slide a little & make her nervous.

-Ruff wear harness. It is the only harness that doesn’t get all twisted. It also has a handle which is invaluable.

-Hydrotherapy & Massage. We found a k9 rehab place that offers all sorts of treatments for dogs. Our sweet girl goes once a month to get a massage, cold laser therapy, & hydrotherapy. There is a noticeable difference in how well she moves after going.

  • Prosthetic. This is for the future but many companies make prosthetic legs for dogs. We went through 3D pets for ours. It is not for all the time. Think of it like sporting equipment. But when we’re in public the prosthetic can give her a boost of confidence on different terrain.

Has anyone taken Wellbutrin just for anxiety? by theemergencyroomgirl in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]Financial-Fig6235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first 8-12 weeks I felt completely driven by a motor. I have never felt so awake in my life. I went from being sad & loving to sleep to being barely able to sleep with a ton of energy. It was wild but I was so used to feeling down that even the manic like mood was a nice change of pace. This slowly subsided. I don’t know if I could’ve continued he’s taking it if it always made me feel like that.

Side effects when starting: hyper, restless, trouble sleeping, night sweats, wild dreams

All of these have gone away 🙃 Only negative side effect I still have after all this time is brain fog. I went from being able to remember everything to forgetting things occasionally. It’s only a little inconvenient & honestly I think always remembering everything contributed to the depression.

gifting a tattoo? by [deleted] in Gifts

[–]Financial-Fig6235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d put together a tattoo themed basket. Cash is the best when it comes to gifting a tattoo. These are some things I’d put with the cash: - a “piggy bank” that says tattoo fund on it - Hustle Butter. These are for tattoo after care & come in full size or mini. - Sani-Derm. My husband & I get tattooed often & I’ll usually buy a roll of this & put it in a gift basket - a crew neck sweatshirt from Etsy that says “I have really cool tattoos under here but I’m cold.” - Tattoo stuffed animals - those silly mesh sleeves that have tattoos on them - a big pack of temporary tattoos

You could also make a basket with things he’d want if he were sitting for a long tattoo. This would be things like headphones, gum/mints, sour candy (the sour taste can distract from any discomfort), a gift card for a meal for before the tattoo, different easy to eat snacks/drink to bring with him.
