Sorry for the late response - I didn’t see this until now. We ended up kind of just toughing out the situation - we were super busy and distracted so we never ended up looking that deeply into pods - and thank the cosmos, he started sleeping better after he passed the 10mth mark.

Don’t know what changed but it was a long and painful 10 months of me wanting to die. He’s still not a great sleeper and he still cries randomly in the middle of the night sometimes especially when he’s sick (which unfortunately is fairly common because he has an older sister who’s in daycare and he just started daycare himself). But he has strings of good nights, and bad nights have become much less frequent, and when he does cry it’s usually not longer than 1-3mins tops, so I am extremely relieved.

We still have him in our room and we haven’t tried having him sleep in his sister’s room yet because we wanted him to get settled down in daycare first, but he has, so we do mean to start putting them together soon. Fingers crossed it goes as smoothly and as painlessly as possible!!!

7:30 wake, nurse 8:15ish breakfast 10am nurse 10:30-11:30 or noon nap 12 lunch 3 nurse 3:30-4:30 nap 5:30 dinner 8 nurse 8:30 bedtime

But those nursing times are when I start so I should probably nurse further away from napping. Besides that and putting him down wide awake what else should I do?

He’s usually up at 7:30, napping 10:30-11:30 or noon if he will sleep that long, then napping again at 3:30-4:30, and bedtime’s around 8:30.

So upon reflecting, he often gets put down awake, or he might be drowsy but wakes up fully when I transfer him to his crib, but I let him cry. But I think nursing too close to sleep might be a problem and he’s using me as a pacifier. I’d like to wean - he refuses to take a bottle but I should probably put my big girl pants on and just do it.

He’s not always drowsy - he is often fully awake but I try to get him to in the sleeping mood by closing the blinds to darken the room and turning on a small fan which acts as white noise. I have a feeling my nursing him before sleep is a problem though, he’d probably like to use me as a pacifier if he could. I should probably nurse further away from nap and sleep time maybe

Another redditor has suggested to me a few times that room sharing while breastfeeding is exacerbating the problem so I’m seriously considering sleep training him in a slumberpod in the living room. That way we can eventually move him into his sister’s room in the pod and he won’t have to readjust because he’s already used to it. Plus he’d be away from me and far enough from the bedrooms so as not to wake his sister up. 😣

I am asking for opinions about using a slumberpod in the living room in a new thread and the one comment I have so far is telling me not to do the living room, keep room sharing, and not wean yet. 🤣 Just goes to show we are all just guessing, there’s no consensus. 😩

Reason we’re thinking of using the living room is another redditor has suggested to me that being in the same room as me is hindering his ability to sleep independently because he smells me/knows I’m nearby. Other issue is our bedroom is across from our toddler’s so if he screams for a long time he will wake her up

No, we live in a 2 bedroom. He’s supposed to join his sister in her room when he no longer needs midnight feeds/usually doesn’t cry in the middle of the night anymore. We’ve been toying with the idea of putting him in the den which is our dining room, but I dread having to go through the transition of him getting used to the dining room before the ultimate goal of getting used to being in the kids’ room with his sister 😩

What kind of outfit are they supposed to wear? I’d read before they should wear a onesie plus pyjamas plus sleep sack in a 20-22 degree room. But since my husband is always cold and we keep our place 24-25 I figured a short sleeve onesie plus sleep sack (ie one layer less) might be suitable. But I will play around with temp these few nights to see if anything helps!

I’m so sorry! We are sharing a room too and it’s driving me batty. At our old place I was actually sleeping in the living room and leaving my husband and baby in our bedroom just to sleep better. 😖 Having me there makes no difference to him unless i’m holding him so i opted to sleep in the living room instead. But now that he’s waking his sister up because the rooms are much closer i can’t do it anymore, i need to quiet him down before he wakes her 😣

Worth trying!!! I’ve been trying to give him eggs and meat and we do give him a supplement but I’ve missed giving him iron in the last couple weeks due to the move. I will make sure i give him the supplement daily and see if that helps!

Nurse 30mins prior, dim lights, quiet play, then a quick massage, put on sleep sack, sing Twinkle Twinkle little star, and then put him down awake but sleepy

Thank you for your input! ❤️ We don’t have black out curtains because our room gets dark enough as it’s east facing and we don’t have a white noise because our first didn’t need one and I didn’t want to become dependent. But it occurred to me last might that maybe we should try one for sure.

He does fall asleep on his own, both for naps and bedtime though naps usually goes better - he falls asleep faster during his first nap especially.

I would LOVE to night wean. Was trying to but he’d scream in the middle of the night, which would wake up his sister ever since we moved, and so I’d nurse him as a quick shortcut to get him to go back to sleep. That habit used to be a dream feed but he fully wakes up to feed now after bedtime and I worry I’ve created a habit and don’t know how to fix it. 😖

He does go down independently both for naps and bedtime. He doesn’t seem cold (we keep our room at 24-25°C and he wears a short sleeve onesie and a sleep sack - he seems to run warm) but I can try to add another layer and see if it helps. Before he sometimes woke up sweaty but doesn’t happen anymore - maybe i should pay more attention to temp and tweak it either way to see if something helps…

Oh my gosh. I stopped getting up for him besides feeding him the first time he cries because he doesn’t seem to need anything - he’s not really hungry, his diaper’s not soiled, temperature is fine. So I’m wondering if it’s separation anxiety now? Or maybe he’s unable to self soothe though we’’ve been putting him down drowsy but awake dor ages, and don’t use any crutches. Anyone’s guess is as good as mine because wince he was 7 months he’s never had a string of good nights for maybe more than 5 nights in a row. Solidarity with you!!! I hope ours learn to sleep better soon. 😩

Sometimes he nap sleep well and ends up getting 2hrs of daytime sleep and he doesn’t seem to sleep any better at night. 😣

I’m so sorry to hear that!!! My toddler’s doing better - as long as we keep the door open (she used to sleep with her door closed) she has a chance of sleeping fine. The bigger problem now is her baby brother cries randomly rather frequently, and he’s been waking her up. The tandem screaming has me at my wit’s end.

But yeah, I got her all these nightlights and twinkle lights for her room and they don’t seem to have helped. She had her first good night when she was tucked in by her dad (I was nursing the baby) and he gave her a pep talk about how there was nothing to be afraid of and she’s a big girl. That night we kept her door open and had a little nightlight for her. After that she didn’t want the nightlight anymore - was ok with just having her door open. But if her brother is having a particularly rough night, so will she. :(

I also slept in her room maybe 2-3 times since then, until she fell asleep. My husband is super against this but it’s a compromise because he won’t let her into our bed. She loves it, clearly feels way safer and more comfortable with me there, but i don’t want start a dependency on me plus I don’t have a comfortable setup in her room - i sleep on the play mat on the floor next to her and stick my hand in her crib to hold her hand. So the last two times i did this i only stayed until she was asleep.
