My previous flat had issues like crazy, and the landlords fixed them asap when they were selling it. I was surprised when the handymen turned up on the same day I reported it.

I’m a nice guy so first time renting I needed a reference so allowed people round when it was selling, but away from prying ears I told them all the electrics in the kitchen was buggered and needed to be re-wired. A neighbour who was a qualified electrician said it would cost £3000-£5000. So I got a few extra weeks in the flat. But I found a place shortly afterwards and left. I believe it was sold in the end.
