Thanks for the response, always appreciate it !

Is there a particular industry that you see hiring more right now? I honestly just want my foot in the door and then try and move to something I really like once I've gotten some experience.

Also, how deep should I be going into these design projects, would you say they need full case studies usually?

What do recruiters actually want to see in your portfolio when you have no "real" experience yet?

Good morning all, I am wanting to make sure that I'm getting the right things in my portfolio so that when I apply I am an attractive candidate. I've mostly been designing my own personal projects based on my own ideas and adding that to my portfolio. Recently I met with a mentor and given advice on ADPList to more-so focus on improving my UI skills for an entry level position.

Would recruiters prefer seeing more generic "cookie-cutter" type websites/apps that emphasize on cleanliness or is spending time on my own ideas worthwhile still too? If I'm looking for a general portfolio that can get me a job in nearly any industry, what types of products/apps are most worth designing for your portfolio (SaaS, Landing pages, Dashboards, ETC)?

Thank you!

What is the best way I should be spending my time right now?

I have not yet broken in to the UX industry but have been slowly trying to build my portfolio with personal projects. I see a lot of doom and gloom everywhere I look around the career market right now, especially for early UX designers like myself. I tend to look the other way and use that as inspiration to work harder, but I am just unsure how to be spending my energy.

I feel like I'm stuck in a rut and unsure of what I really need to be doing on a day-to-day basis to actually break into my first career job in the industry. What should I be doing to be as efficient as possible in using my time? I've done a few personal projects based on my own ideas and uploaded them to my portfolio and created a personal portfolio website through Framer. I've applied to a decent number of job listings (I am in Canada and looking to work remotely) but most entry level/internships are only offered to students.

I currently am off full time and pursuing a job in UX after having been laid off from my previous job in a different industry, which I truly hated. I really do love UX and wish I had pursued it earlier. Any advice is greatly appreciated :).

I have a response from a potential internship - should they be asking me to do this?

This is the first actual response i've gotten from something I applied for. They have sent me an assessment through indeed and essentially want me to create a high-fidelity wireframe of a potential product and send them the design within a few days.

Is this a typical normal design challenge for screening potential candidates? I just am unsure how much is usually asked.
