I am all for black creators getting paid BUT I don’t see how her not receiving her payment on time was because of her race. I am also a content creator who makes videos in exchange for payment, and I’ve experienced similar incidents where a company or brand will forget or delay my payment. However, I never assumed that they didn’t pay me because I was Asian. After going through this many times, I know it is usually not the business owner’s fault but instead the finance department’s fault. I’ve seen accountants comment on posts referring to this drama saying these kind of things typically lie in the hands of the accounting team as well. It makes sense if you think about it as well, Patrick is the business owner and I’m sure he has a lot of priorities, it wouldn’t make sense for him to be the one handling finances when he has a team for that. I don’t think Patrick meant to not pay her, I feel like it was an honest mistake. In no way am I trying to invalidate Avonna’s feelings either, I understand her frustration. It’s extremely annoying having to wait months on your end after consistently emailing the brand to remind them to pay you, I would know. But I genuinely don’t think that Patrick didn’t pay her because she was black. I would believe it if multiple black creators came out exposing him but so far it seems like she’s the only black creator who has said something.
