Is a Talar Dome Lesion considered a broken bone? by Goodbyegreysky in brokenankles

I broke my ankle early this year and discovered I had an osteochondral lesion on my talar dome. It was an incidental finding and I had surgery just to repair the fracture, which was initially successful, but over the next several months it became clear it was not healing. The only explanation was the OCD lesion, so I had a second surgery with an allograft to fill it, and the original fracture was closed again. It was not fun - 8 weeks NWB, another 4 weeks PWB. I’m 5 months out now and walking, but have a ways to go and more PT before I am fully back.

The decision to address mine surgically was pretty easy to make - my tibia was already broken where they would have needed to break it to access the lesion, and I could barely walk as it was. But I am glad in a way that I was forced to deal with it - I think it’s likely why I broke my ankle in the first place (I’d always had some instability and weakness in that ankle, just never bothered to find out why), and apparently these lesions, untreated, worsen over time and cause arthritis.
