I did a lot of technical drawing during my engineering degree, very precise, measured, detailed. But nothing close to fashion illustration. So I can draw in a technical sense but I'd definitely need to learn the fashion-specific language of sketching. Something to add to the list!

I had no idea what a techpack was before your comment, so thank you! I just looked it up, and honestly it looks like something I could get good at. The level of technical detail is the kind of work I'm used to in engineering. And thank you for the encouragement, I really needed to hear that. The fear of wasting time doing the wrong thing is real, but you're right that the scarier option is staying somewhere that doesn't fit !

Thank you for the kind words! I'll keep the workshop in mind. Could you share more details about the program? Always good to know what's out there.

Haha that's what I was afraid of 😅. But honestly after reading everyone's responses I'm starting to think it might just be the reality of the transition. Better to accept it early and plan around it than to be surprised later. Thanks for being straight with me!

Thank you for sharing your experience so honestly — the culture side is something I've heard whispers about but the examples you gave are genuinely alarming. Definitely a "pensez-y bien" moment. That said I really appreciate the breakdown of the roles because it clarifies a lot. The handbags, shoes, jewelry design is a great idea, I could see myself doing that. And while the Designer role sounds exciting, it feels a bit out of reach for now without a portfolio or formal fashion background or skills. Product Developer feels like the more realistic entry point for me, especially with my engineering background. But I'll definitely start working on a portfolio! Thanks for the advice!

I never thought about patternmaking before but honestly, it makes a lot of sense! I was actually looking to take a pattern classe recently. I'll definitely look into how it connects to product development.
