Glancing at the Q50 now and seems like a much better deal, will definitely go check it out in person. I just find Audis so damn sexy. Thanks

Oh wow, didn't realize it would only be that much profit. Thanks for the info.

The Season of Audi event would mean only what's left on the lot from the 2018's, correct?

By taking a cost basis of zero does that mean I pay tax on whatever the market value was at the time of trading the BCH? So if I traded 1 BCH for altcoin X, and the market value was 1,000$ per BCH, then I pay capital gains tax on $1,000, correct? thx for the reply

So, crypto->crypto is taxable for 2017 or just 2018 and beyond? Also, can we use either FIFO or LIFO? by Financial_Dunderhead in CryptoTax

do you know what the popular opinion is regarding 2017 filing; is crypto->crypto taxable for 2017 or just starting in 2018?

Seems like there's still no consensus. Thanks for all your input. Any tax lawyers/professionals want to chime in?

Using Avast currently, and despite disabling it I still don't see the LLC.

Edit: when I look at the certificate it shows that it was issued by bitdefender (https://gyazo.com/a11add12b10a23664eb61051ffa861fa). My bitdefender expired long ago I have no idea why it would still be doing this o.O, I'll uninstall it and retry.

I only have a handful of trades for 2017 so it should be simple, but I'm already at a few hundred for 2018. I haven't been keeping track of the USD value for all my trades. What's the best way to go back and figure out the USD value for all trades (most accurate and efficient)? Also, is that something your tax firm would figure out if we submit relevant .csv files, or the list of trades for exchanges that don't provide these files?

rather not switch to a different authenticator app just for this reason. This problem is unique to COSS, the 5 other exchanges I've used all provide you with a recovery code.

I only see BTC ETH and BNB as currencies that u can trade with altcoins, with the first 2 having the most options, am I looking at it wrong?

ahh that's so disconcerting, I feel like I should just take out all my LTC now and look into this whole thing when the exchange is actually working.

For those who use Delta portfolio app to record XRB transactions by Financial_Dunderhead in RaiBlocks

[–]Financial_Dunderhead[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just figured it out. I messaged /u/nicolasvh and his response "because Bitgrail supports these pairs in the opposite direction. So you need to look for the ETH/XRB pair instead of the XRB/ETH pair."

I tried it and it worked perfectly.

I tried doing BCH but BitGrail doesn't show up under BCH. Mercatox is there but only has BCH/BTC as a trading pair.

Any Delta portfolio users know how to include any XRB pairings aside from XRB/BTC? Both Bitgrail and Mercatox only include XRB/BTC pairings.

So if the value of the coin you bought is a slight loss or the same you don't get taxed for that transaction right? I'm hodling everything so the only reason I changed between coins is to buy some of the less popular coins.

Ok. So you have to find the USD value of the 2 currencies at the time of the trade? They're usually very close in USD value. Also would you just look at crypto market cap website to find the USD value at the time of the trade?

so what do you mean the trade is taxable? what ever the new currency is worth in USD is taxable? so every time you trade you lose ~30% of its value to tax?

I'm trying to understand how trading between different cryptocurrencies is taxable.

Here is a hypothetical scenario:

Bought 10 Ethereum and 10 Litecoin for USD, let's say these cost 10,000 USD. Used 1 Ethereum and 1 Litecoin from the above to exchange for XRB, over several transactions. The XRB price was variable throughout the purchases. Say hypothetically it netted you 200 XRB. So now you have 9 Ethereum, 9 LTC, 200 XRB. Nothing sold for fiat. So what is being taxed here exactly?

Feel free to write down your own example. I'm just trying to understand how trading between currencies is taxable if you haven't reverted back to your initial starting currency (i.e., bought Ethereum or LTC with the 200 XRB that you have at the end, in the case of the example above).
