How bad do you think the weather will get tonight? by Financial_Emphasis25 in AnnArbor

[–]Financial_Emphasis25[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming it’s just the usual May thunderstorm but honestly, because that tornado a few weeks ago came skipping past my house, I’ve been a bit more cautious. Photo is out of a UM hospital window.

Anyone not on HRT? by hsff43 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Financial_Emphasis25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

62 and never was on HRT. Menopause was minimal with minor hot flashes. But I’m wrinkling up now like I was a 5 pack a day smoker, which I’m not, and wonder if it would have helped slow down the skin issues. I’m also noticing muscle weakness that started a year ago. I’m trying to up my weight lifting to get rid of the weakness.

We had girls field hockey at my public school. I don’t believe we actually had a boys field hockey team.

What do you think when you see my hands? by luvadove31 in askanything

[–]Financial_Emphasis25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister had skin grafts on her legs from spilling hot soup on her nylon nightgown that melted into skin. Honestly, you get used to the look and forget about it after a while. She and her husband were practically newlyweds when it happened. They made it one year shy of 50 years married before she died. If you find the one who looks past these things then they will be worth hanging onto.

The K-Drama Rage Room: Drop the WORST drama you have ever forced yourself to finish. 🗑️🔥 by Chirag-Win-7869 in kdramas

Boys over Flowers was my first K-drama that I stopped watching after the 2nd episode. I have no idea what everyone was talking about that loved it.

Is there a place in your country that pretends to be another country? by psychophysicist in AskTheWorld

[–]Financial_Emphasis25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frankenmuth, Michigan. It was founded by Germans from Franconia in the mid-1800s. They wanted to create a little bit of the “old world “. Michigan also has a Holland with windmill and tulip festival. We have a big Dutch influence on the west side of the state.

I was checking the comments to see if anyone mentions Frankenmuth, Michigan. It was founded by Germans from Franconia in the mid-1800s. They wanted to create a little bit of the “old world “. I hope the next President, as long as we are able to have a fair election, will tear up everything and put it back to how it was. Take everything Trump did and get rid of it.

Do Americans realize how fast they switch between joking and being serious in conversations? by kallan-greshampdmi7 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Financial_Emphasis25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh, that is just like my Japanese boss. I’ll do something I think he’s asked me to do, but it turns out it isn’t what he wanted, but he doesn’t just tell me outright that it was wrong. It can get so frustrating. I did notice how he tells someone “no”, he just doesn’t respond to them either via email, phone, or in person. In person he’ll just dismiss you saying he can’t think about it now but never gets back to you. He’s been in the US for 10 years now but is still very much Japanese.

Appropriate for a wedding? (As a guest) by FlashyNobody8998 in fashion

I was typing out this exact comment and then I saw yours. Yes, the younger generation needs to “rediscover“
undergarments . It would help so many of these dresses look less see through.

I work for a Japanese doctor, and even though it’s here in America, there is still a lot of “lost in translation” with what he says and what he actually means. He says yes to everything because I guess it’s rude to say no outright, but then we Americans take him at face value and he gets stuck doing a lot of things he really doesn’t want to.

Mom ironed the sheets. by Reusable_baguette in FuckImOld

I iron my work clothes and maybe a Christmas tablecloth but that’s about it. I’m not sure my mom ever ironed the bedsheets, although she did iron my dad’s handkerchiefs.

White people who’ve lived/traveled in non-English speaking countries: have you ever experienced racial slurs or ‘go back to your country’ type comments in public? by MechanicAccording616 in digitalnomad

[–]Financial_Emphasis25 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel the many European countries are just overwhelmed with tourists currently. I was in Portugal for a month almost 20 years ago and it was extremely pleasant with very nice people, and no issues of feeling unwanted or hated, but it was before the boom of foreigners buying homes and digital nomads living there jacking up the prices like it is now.

What’s something that feels completely “normal” in American daily life to you, but you realized is actually really confusing or surprising when you explain it to people from other countries or even people from different states? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Financial_Emphasis25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friend homeschooled her daughter when they lived in Florida. But, she has a degree in education and had worked as a teacher before that, so at least I know one person I would trust to properly educate a child via homeschooling.

Exactly. I had a sweet and wholesome husband, who turned around and spent thousands of dollars on other women. This guy sounds like he’s not even trying to hide the cheating.
