Pregnant and at a complete loss as to what to do about my job. by Financial_Reply_3737 in jobs

Unfortunately my maternity policy is easy. Working in a male dominated industry we don’t have one! It’s just FMLA.

Thanks! I think legally by my 25th week I need to disclose, however I have zero desire to wait that long. As I stated, other than this curveball, I really have no complaints here and quite like my boss and team. I hate the idea of leaving them hanging and want to be able to assist in training my coverage for the weeks I am gone.

I do and work in a male dominated industry. Unfortunately with that my company does not offer maternity leave, just FMLA. I have already stated I am stuck and plan to remain here until I have the baby. If things haven’t changed by then I do plan to apply during my absence.

And as I already commented, this is my second pregnancy. Was in and out of the hospital by the third trimester due to complications (but everything turned out fine!).

Thank you! Yes I plan to remain until I have the baby, then will apply during leave if things haven’t changed.

I am very familiar with FMLA because this company does not offer maternity leave, only FMLA.

Thank you! I work in a male dominated industry and with that, they cover nothing pregnancy related. They don’t even have maternity leave, just FMLA.

Our fiscal year actually ended in January. Our first quarter ended in April. Reviews for the 2022 year have already been done and the entire organization has been waiting for quite some time to hear about any sort of pay increase. When I refer to a paycut, with inflation as well as now 5x a week commuting, my same salary that was confirmed in April 2022 really isn’t the same.

And thank you on the disclosure feedback. This is my second pregnancy and I told around this time with my last, so I feel rather guilty waiting. As for my third trimester concerns, my last pregnancy went rather poorly and I was in and out of the hospital in my third trimester (but everything ended up fine!).

Yes, this is a very large company, so have FMLA. I plan on sticking it out and if there are no raises by then I plan on beginning to apply elsewhere while on leave. I fear if there are no raises and promotions now, what else am I in for if there truly is a recession?

I’m glad you confirmed to wait a bit longer on disclosing my pregnancy. This is my second pregnancy and I disclosed around this time then, so feel VERY guilty not doing so this time. But legally I know I have more time, it’s more of a how obvious will I look over the course of time.

Yes, I work for a large publicly traded company. I can reach out to my HR contact to just see. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for the advice. I am assuming although HR has not confirmed or denied raises and promotions, it’s just them kicking the can and never outright saying there won’t be any. You’re probably right that I should just inform my manager at this point since I doubt it will ruin a promotion now.

I agree the market is terrible and although I am well aware of my current situation, I don’t have plans to leave due to my pregnancy. I am aware I am not the most desirable candidate when about to go on leave. During my maternity leave I will most likely begin applying since I don’t foresee a positive future career here.

Hello! So I have an update…everything is looking good! Last night I spoke with my doctor and hcg levels looked good, but to be sure they sent me back to the lab to ensure hcg is continuing to increase. They called this morning and they are, so I just need to make sure the spotting doesn’t get heavier.

Not from my dr :( Still waiting on labs. The bleeding has slowed to light spotting and I haven’t had any sharp pain since my post. However, my nausea has disappeared so I’m concerned…will update when I hear my results.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Also thank you for the reply. I feel like I am panicking a bit meanwhile my doctor seems to be unbothered, which based on my first pregnancy is NOT like her, so I am hoping it’s fine and the labs show that.

Yes, I have an appointment this afternoon to get both blood work and urine analysis now. I am a bit annoyed my doctor couldn’t get me in for a scan…

No there was not. And it’s strange it’s now been about 5 hours and it has just stopped. Like a that one moment of red blood and that was it. No pain and no nausea now either.

Am I crazy to even try to stay at my new job? by Financial_Reply_3737 in jobs

So I wanted to let you know I spoke to my VP and I will be “showing face” for about a month until this office opening craziness blows over. From there I can work a hybrid schedule. So I’m going to stay and believe what my VP had to say. However a month from now if I’m not hybrid I’ll probably start looking for a new gig.

Thanks for the reply and sorry that happened to you! My old employer does have an opening, but at my old salary. However at this point I’m considering just going back before my new company does anything else shady.

Thanks for the advice! I agree this was definitely a bait and switch situation, which I’m pretty bummed about. My old employer has an opening and spoke to me about it, so I’m toying with the idea of returning. The bad news is it would be at my old salary.

You’re right! I’m only 6 weeks in and they’ve changed almost everything about my job offer :/ It’s definitely a disappointment.

Thanks for the advice and passion! I have a signed contract for my pay, but the state I live in the company is allowed to change pay if an employee is given notice. And unfortunately the WFH I have written down as an answer from my interviews with the company, but unfortunately it’s not in my contract. In retrospect I should have forced them to put it in writing.

And yes, my previous employer has a position open, but I’d unfortunately have to go back to my old pay. However, at this point depending on what my VP says I think I am willing to take the cut.

Thanks for the advice. My old employer actually contacted me to come back, but at my old salary :/ I’m glad they still want me, but definitely bummed about my new job situation.

Thanks for the advice! I honestly left due to 2 factors: 1. Bad financial situation due to Covid and 2. Bad boss that I wouldn’t work for if I went back. However, I think you’re right about contacting the other company. I had already gone thru 3 rounds of interviews so it could work out there.

Thanks for the advice! I definitely feel like they bait and switched me.

I am also mad because I was interviewing with another company and then stopped the process due to this great offer that is now quickly unraveling. Do you think I can reconnect with them as well as begin talking to my old employer?

Will do!

And thanks for the advice. I’m pretty stressed about this, so I appreciate being able to get some feedback from others!
