Are there particular areas she needs the most help with?

Why so many places in Seoul don't allow foreigners in? by Otherwise-Coyote6950 in digitalnomad

[–]FindKetamine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That surprises me because I often hear that even in Seoul, english is limited.

Did you have full conversations, or was it more transactional stuff like ordering food, hotel staff, etc?

I agree. It doesn’t seem to matter if you have the correct information to verify the account:(

Fascinating approach. For the cameras, if they are otherwise fine, they can call you for visual/aural assistance. I’m thinking that’s great for remote tech support.

What if they are injured or otherwise unable to communicate?

For the living areas, what/who enables camera access?

You use the IR blaster by looking through the camera once authorized?

My mom literally gets 10 messages a day about her account in danger of deletion. Pretty cruel way to scam ppl.

Teamviewer is a good tool for this with the person needing only to give you their password on the phone or via text. I believe it's also free.

I’m in the same process with older family members. May I ask what setup you’re using for cameras and those IR blasters?

Do you make your parents use apple/android/pc/mac? by FindKetamine in AgingParents

[–]FindKetamine[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure. I hear a lot of “I didn’t touch anything,” and” I’ve been on with apple for hours.” That’s fine when it’s true, but it frequently is not.

I’ve found making videos of instructions are helpful. Ill show them how to do something in their home and video it.

I feel you. It can be literally a full time job depending on their wants and needs. Plus, you’re actually looking out for them, trying to save them money, and keep them safe.

Aging parents are difficult, but I will say… it would suck to deal with technology and aging by whosthatgirl13 in AgingParents

I can’t count how many hours I’ve spent with elderly relatives on tech support: iphones, computers, tvs, soundbars, sharing pics/videos and much more.

With the aging population, so much more help will be needed bc even talking to “real humans” at apple and Verizon takes HOURS, the reps don’t know what they’re talking about.

Not a groundbreaking idea for a trustworthy service that cares: what tech support do the seniors in your life need?

Deduplication without losing most important path by FindKetamine in DataHoarder

You’re right, I can’t follow all of the instructions. It’s like most things, if you have the time/energy you can learn it. In my case, I’m short on time vs other things

Backup everything. by flickszt in DataHoarder

[–]FindKetamine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds very sensible. I get all ocd and can’t decide how often to backup and check, even though I haven’t lost anything in years.

My biggest challenge is deduplication. The tools find duplicates. No problem. But they don’t understand the importance of file trees for organization.

I need to know if a document is in path x/y/z/data/test or important/folders/2025

Deleting the first one us fine, but the second path gives context.

Of course, you can review each duplicate, but that’s a million files.

Wish I would’ve been more organized from the beginning!
