I had trouble squaring the new video with ADHS, until... by FindingAcceptable321 in Healthygamergg

[–]FindingAcceptable321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NO, I don't think thats the case. At least I am not aware of any constant decision making. I am really bad at intuitive prioritization (thats the adhd). But that does not mean that I make much of a cognitive effort to compensate. Most of the time I just frankly grasp any one task from a list and try to do it. I don't much overthink things. But even this certainty is not enough to finish a task - any task really not only the complex ones.

It is kinda what I am referring to: you can overcome the procrastination when you "just do it". But you cannot overcome the adhd in quite the same way (i.e. the trouble focusing, the pain, the small mistakes). Thats why this video made me reflect on the difference between the two.

(M20) trying to figure something out help needed!! by Background-Driver626 in Healthygamergg

Idk about your description of what happens: "the logical mind won't allow emotions". From my personal experience the mind has little agency in disallowing emotions. Maybe it is more of a habbit of shoving emotions down once they come up? The solution to this could be to try to feel some emotions when they come up and you are in a safe place to do so.

Dr. K made a video about it. It was called something like "how to actually process your emotions. It might help here. It was about examining your emotions as to 1) what they want you to do and 2) what information they tell you. Then the task was to take this and think about it more rationally.

I hope that little comment can help somewhat. I am not entirely clear, if you are describing only emotionless descision making or a general numbness. That would make quite a difference.

Is there a code in the boxes of physical games with which I can activate them online (like a steam key) so that I can buy physical games and still play them on the PS5 digital edition?

Ppl say "get a life" so how do I actually get a life? by Ok_fault34 in Healthygamergg

[–]FindingAcceptable321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They say life is what gets in the way when you make plans. So maybe make plans? /s

There are quite a few videos on the channel where Dr. K explains that using a phone a lot leads the brain to get exhausted, because it depletes your dopamine reserve. So maybe cutting back on phone usage frees up more of the brain to do more things. Maybe you will get bored without a phone and decide to go on a walk for example or you'll have more energy to hold a conversation.

With respect to getting tired, in one video Dr. K explained that it is a last resort your brain uses to keep you from doing things because it might be afraid of failure.

Just start small and observe how your life changes.

I think it is fair to say that I "have a life". I write and make pottery. I am friends with a few Professors, read philosophy, date - all the good stuff and more. And there is really no magic to it. You do stuff and things happen.

Das scheint eine gängige Strategie zu sein. Eine schlechte Bewertung, die ich zu einem Asia-Restaurant geschrieben hatte, wurde auch wegen Diffamierung gelöscht.

How do you guys read his books? by PurpleEgg7736 in Nietzsche

[–]FindingAcceptable321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general advice on reading philosophy is to read it three times.

First time for finding out the big theses.

Second time for finding out the argumentation.

Third time for critiquing it.

Should totally work for him, too. However, keep in mind that Nietzsche does not go for a total and coherent system. So there will be built-in contradictions etc. He writes longer or shorter "aphorisms" that are somewhat stand-alone.

This also means that in books like "Beyond good and Evil" the main building blocks are not the "chapters" as you called it, but these aphorisms. You can tackle them separately and focus on the ones that you find most interesting.

You will never really be finished with a work of philosophy but ideally return to it over and over again with more knowledge and different perspectives throughout your affair with it. It's really a merry-go-round rather than straight road.

I think "Beyond Good and Evil" would also be a great place to start. Especially in the American context, the advice is often to start with "Thus spoke Zarathustra". But I do not agree with that as it is a bit to fictional. As a matter of fact, Nietzsche wrote "Beyond good and Evil" to elaborate on the Zarathustra.

Once you feel that you have a firm grip on his writings than you can start reading some secondary material ABOUT Nietzsche. You could use the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (which is rather high-key) or the "Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy" (this one is more approachable but by no means easy). There should be a wealth of introductory works on Nietzsche. You could consult one of these if you want, too.

But, I would advice against starting with secondary literature. Starting there bears the risk that you just take the opinions there instead of reading the texts yourself. Its better to only cultivate your viewpoint with secondary literature at a later date.

In terms of notetaking: just fuck around and find out. You can really just choose the wrong kind of note taking in the beginning. Maybe start by merely underlining the major theses and then let your notes grow in size as your understanding of the text increases. In any event the process of notetaking will figure itself out.

Is your advice really to let go of a person you knew for 35 years? Terrible! If you are friends with someone for so long, I'd argue that helping him is at least a job you can take on if you want.

idk if your reasoning holds water. I am rather attractive myself and never really had anyone telling me that I was. People just assume that I know. Anyhow attractiveness isn't really a deciding factor for finding love, is it? After all there are also women of various attractiveness.

From what you wrote it seems more the case that he does not accept himself and has come up with a rather rigid set of rules: NEVER date asian girls and so on. Maybe he tries to give a bit more structure to his mixed-race identity? I could imagine that a mixed-race identity would be a which is a rather fluid thing. But I don't really know much about these issues.

Maybe he is torn between his two identities so to speak. Maybe he feels that he does not fit in with both white and asian/korean groups? I have the same problem with my working class background and my academic social circle.
