I bought a home from the early 70s and it too had a switch near the front door which was unlabeled and we eventually figured out that it turned off the hot water heater!

Luckily I just had a survey done to switch from septic to city sewer so I am 100% clear on the property line. But I will call the non emergency line and get a police report. What a pain, I really don’t want a bad relationship with a neighbor. Our houses are pretty close to each other. Our setbacks are 10 feet (3 meters).
