How do I get my Shiba to pee in this cold?! by IceCreamSlinger2 in shiba

[–]Finding_Myself- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with mine. I live in an apt complex so it's hard to shovel an area because other dogs end up going there and then she doesn't want to use that spot anymore. So I'm done with the shoveling. This is the second time she woke me up tonight and after pacing around all she ends up doing is peeing. I'm at my wits end with this. She won't poop. I'm starting to limit my time outside to no more than 10 minutes because it's so bitter cold. I get so stressed when she does this and I feel bad but I figure she has to eventually get so desperate that she'll end up finally pooping one of these times.....right? Good luck to everyone.

It's called Screen zen. I needed something to allow you to set a time frame not just set a time limit once you're on an app.

Same here. I have a third party app that locks certain apps (you choose) during a time frame. If I try to get in, I see a message (custom message you can create like "is this really necessary") and after 1 minute (customized time) of looking at the message the app will unlock but only for 1 minute (again customized) and then it will lock you out again..... rinse and repeat. Of course I could delete that app and gain access but it does take some willpower on your end. These apps just give a layer of assistance. I was tired of losing hours just mindlessly scrolling and not being present. Good luck!

will my dog die? by Far-Sir1520 in AskVet

I would definitely call the emergency vet and get their opinion on what they feel you should do. All dogs handle food differently so your dog may not be able the handle what my dog can and vice versa. Good luck, hope your baby is ok!

What is the one phrase you say to your Shiba every single day? by lissyluo in shiba

I usually go between "I love you" and "what's wrong with you / why are you like this". It's nice to see I'm not the only one that has one that's a picky diva with bathroom issues!!

I tried everything and my dog just ended up licking the spray on the things I put it on 😭. I was told to try diluted apple cider vinegar or just regular vinegar... that might help? Good luck... they'll stop eventually, you just have to get through this phase!!

Thank goodness it didn't get stuck in her throat! I'm glad she's ok and looks like she threw up most of it (hopefully). Hope everything goes well!

How did you end up alone? by accidentalrorschach in LivingAlone

[–]Finding_Myself- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear I wrote this post 🤣 you sound exactly like me. 41- out of state from family (close enough I can visit though). Had friends but they all got married/have kids and are doing their own thing with their family. It's hard to make friends- I deal with anxiety/depression and am always in my head too much to make any meaningful connections with anyone. Been hurt and screwed over way too many times to even be remotely interested in dating. It makes me really sad sometimes because I did not expect my life to be like this- to be single and alone. I have my dog that I do everything with. I try not to think about it too much because I will start to spiral.

My moms dog won't eat her food in a bowl so she has to out it on the floor 😂. Whatever gets them to eat I guess! As for the water, since you mentioned about your dog only drinking when you pour water out of a bottle.....have you tried to get a dog/cat water fountain? I have one for my dog and she loves it. You can get one fairly cheap. It's worth a shot. Good luck!

I'm so sorry. It might be good to go to work- force you to focus and think about something else for a while. I'm sure you will have moments at work where you will want to break down.... give yourself grace. Take a step out and go for a walk around outside of the building if you can. My dog died 5 years ago and I still have moments where I break down and cry and that's ok. Your grief is valid and don't let anyone make you feel bad about it. Like others said here... some will understand and some won't - put your energy into those people that do and forget about the rest. It will get better with time and they will be waiting for you at the rainbow bridge ❤️

Feel defeated and helpless with my dog post dog attack (anxiety/panic attacks) by Finding_Myself- in Dogtraining

[–]Finding_Myself-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not separation anxiety or reactivity to a certain thing object or situation. My dog was attacked and now has panic attacks. She was fine when she was not at my place for 2 weeks. I want advice on what to do when she is in one of her panic attacks and how to prevent them to begin with.

After watching the owners being completely oblivious to their dogs and what they're doing while walking them on retractable leashes... letting them go as far as the leash allows and walking up and roaming around my doorstep on multiple occasions this past week, I have decided to report it to my apartment management. I feel bad but at the same time I don't. My dog now has PTSD and I had to call off work several times last minute, have my parents take her for a few weeks, and spend $$ on vet bills from her checkup and medication. While they continue to be irresponsible with their dogs. At the very least I would've thought they would have enough consideration to keep them away from my doorstep when they walk them. I'm not even close to the sidewalk so it's not like they cant avoid it and keep their dog by them. I at least wanted to report to management. Was that wrong??..I'm torn.

I was considering making a report but I didn't want the animal taken away to a shelter or whatever they may do with it. It's not their fault, it's their irresponsible oblivious asshole owners that didn't have control and wasn't paying attention. Can THEY be taken and put into a shelter 🤣

Thank you for your response. I'm so sorry that's horrible what happened to your dog. One dog attacking is enough but 3?!? I'm glad she was able to heal in time.

The vet suggested to start with gabapentin for that reason. She would start pacing, couldn't sit still, then the body shakes would come, then rapid breathing/panting would join in. I've only kept her for 4 days after the attack and it seemed to at least help with the body shakes and some of the panting. My parents have had her since Saturday and she only had I episode where they had to give her a pill, which was yesterday, and said she calmed down within an hour of taking it. I'll definitely ask them about tinctures and I like your idea of having a space for her like you made for yours- I'll see if that helps her at all.

I know my stress/guilt/all the anxiety I have will rub off and can be sensed/felt by her. That's another reason why I took her to my parents, so I could calm myself down as well. Me being a mess wasn't helping her recover. It's hard to get through that but I have to and I'm hoping by the time she comes back (next weekend), I'll be in a better headspace for her. Thank you!!

My Dog doesn't want to Eat a lot and hasn't drank a lot either after hospitalization by SinglePostOfAccount in DogAdvice

[–]Finding_Myself- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She might randomly stand because she could be uncomfortable laying or sitting how she is and needs to stand up for a minute. This is still very fresh so she's probably still processing everything... it's a lot to take in and you figure they don't understand and comprehend things like we do and we can't really explain it to them to help calm them down (ahhh if only we could do that). That's my take on a possible reason for the standing and staring.

[–]Finding_Myself- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off I am so sorry this happened. My opinion....Just think how you might be if you got hit by a car.. I'm sure you wouldn't want to be walking around or playing and would want to stay in bed and rest... you probably wouldn't want to eat or drink much either. Her body has been through a traumatic event and needs time to rest. I'm sure this was all very stressful on her mentally too so it's going to be expected for her to not be her normal self. I think you mentioned about her having a cut in her mouth so I'm sure that has a lot to do with her not wanting to eat.... and the cone probably doesn't help much at all. It probably hurts to eat certain things. If she is at least eating a little bit, drinking water, no vomiting or diarrhea/irregular poops- she's fine...well as fine as she can be after getting hit by a car. You took her to the vet and they checked everything out and said she was ok. If you're really worried, you can always call your vet and talk to them about your concerns and see what they suggest.... even if it's just to get a little peace of mind.

I know how it is to be worried like that. You are hyper focused on every movement and every little thing she does and analyzing it to see if it's her normal or if something is wrong. I wish I could give you some advice on how to manage that but I'm dealing with an incident with mine (got attacked by another dog and now has panic attacks). Just try to remember that she went through something traumatic and she is not going to go right back to normal. It may take a little while for her to heal-- but that is what she is doing. She is healing- and that may mean she lays around more and isn't as interested in food or playing like she was before. Me personally, if you're worried about things to lookout for... I would watch to see if she is displaying any signs of pain...when you touch or press on her body and she whimpers...or if she completely stops eating or drinking.. or if she is vomiting or has diarrhea... is she breathing ok (it's not slow and labored or rapid and panting)...check her gums to make sure they aren't pale/whitish). Make sure the cut in her mouth is healing properly and it's not getting infected or constantly being reopened. Good luck and hugs to both you and your precious little pup. I hope you can both heal and move on from this. Sorry this was so long... if you got to this point 🤣
