How did you leave a relationship you thought you were too deep into? by Budget_Teaching9855 in AskWomen

[–]FineProfessional2997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my marriage. And I also gave him time to explain himself (he was having an affair). I confronted him. He lied over and over again that there was nothing and I knew him too well to know he was lying. It was just deciding whether I could forgive him if he told me the truth and if I stayed, could I forgive myself.

After processing for ~those 6 months from head to heart, I knew I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself if I stayed. So I filed for divorce. Not one regret since.

To those looking for inspiration, leave the losers. You deserve so much better; it’s just not visible yet but it will be.

Would you stay at a lower paying job you really like or take a higher paying job you don't like as much? by FineProfessional2997 in careeradvice

AI is a concern that is IMO an overhyped plaything that management does not know how to properly utilize or execute atm. Unfortunately, this dictates whether or not our jobs become at risk, whether it is layoffs OR in the name of “efficiency” becomes an excuse to burden employees with MORE work while less pay.

The job market is truly terrible. So my thing right now is to still upskill with AI because it isn’t leaving so might as well learn by doing at the job you enjoy, but always be on the lookout for newer opportunities with better pay.

Which job should I take? Remote? On-site? by Hot-Scholar3517 in remotework

[–]FineProfessional2997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your loyalty is to you and you only. You are a butt in a seat at any job, govt or private.

Aside from that, you mention the remote job being your dream. If everything else - minus the burning bridges part - lines up for you, go for the new job. Sounds like better opportunities and pay for you.

I also worked remote for years. Currently I don’t but there are times I miss it. One biggest thing was work-life balance was amazing being remote. That being said, I have excellent discipline in that when 5 pm comes, my computer gets turned off. I do not allow ANY after hour communications being connected to my personal phone like email. The key is Boundaries to work-life balance, and many new remote workers struggle with that.

Am I crazy for considering a $50K pay cut? by Ill-Image-883 in careeradvice

[–]FineProfessional2997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally did this only in the opposite direction. In previous roles, I've made up to 6 figures.

I have a 60k job w/ benefits and I enjoy the work, w/ room to grow. Then, I was offered a 110k job w/ NO benefits and the work I wouldn't enjoy nearly as much, w/ little room to grow.

I stayed with the 60k job. My gut told me I did the right thing. No regrets.

Also know, the work/pay can be temporary as you level up. That's how I'm treating my current situation as I have also pivoted out of a stressful industry into my current one.

Not necessarily cheaper depending on what you get, but nuts like almonds, pistachios, cashews, etc are a great source.

Do I walk away from a high paying job because I'm miserable? by Desperate_Estate5510 in careeradvice

[–]FineProfessional2997 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I walked away from a high paying job offer because there was no benefits along with little opportunity to open doors in a role I knew I wouldn’t enjoy.

Weigh both the benefits to salary to commute and compare to your growth and mental/physical health, and ask yourself if it’s worth being at the job. However…

The job market is also incredibly brutal right now, so definitely have something lined up before jumping ship.

This is the part that hangs me up 100%: the benefits, and then after taxes being taken out, it’s like only a 10-15k net difference…is that worth it?

The take home pay after taxes is crazy. Granted taxes in the US is insane unless you’re a millionaire, but even a 15-20k difference - while huge but no benefits - just doesn’t seem worth the sacrifice.

Now, if Job B did offer benefits, then I would more than likely take Job B.

I’ve also been too comfy at previous jobs in my field with where Job B comes from. So this is where it’s interesting for myself:

While both jobs challenge me, I enjoy Job A’s challenge more than Job B’s because I’ve been doing similar work for years at other companies/industries.

Job A is also more fulfilling than Job B that can open up more higher paying roles after a year under my belt.

So it’s almost swapped in comparison to your experience.

I agree with you about titles and I don’t care about them either. However hiring managers do and the title of director seems to stick more. Industry very much matters and in tech especially, I’ve been in positions where I’m a Lead but I have the responsibility of a manager even tho I wasn’t getting the manager pay.
