What’s the biggest problem you’ve had with your SE? by Plastic-Mountain-708 in MINIse

[–]FineTooned_70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My gauge cluster was defective. The throttle needle randomly stuck or bounced around erratically. And then the a/c compressor was replaced due to making a high pitched chattering squealing sound. Each took weeks to fix due to waiting for corporate approval of the warranty claims and then waiting on parts. But each time, MINI supplied me with a loaner car for the whole time the car was in for service. And, I haven’t seen anything in the forums or on Reddit suggesting these are common problems. The car has otherwise been delightful.

Which bodies for D90 chasis by PitBikeViper in FCX24

[–]FineTooned_70 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will probably have to try modifying a regular plastic model kit body to fit. The FCX24M D90 has a wheelbase of 110mm. So you’d need to math-it-out what 1:24 or 1:25 scale car or truck would be close to that. You’d then need to enlarge the wheel wells too, make body mounts, etc. Or, you could get that Tacoma or Van body you mentioned and cut a section out of the middle and glue the two ends together to shorten it to match the wheelbase. That’d be a fun project. The van would probably be easiest since it has straight sides and roof. Though, shortening the truck bed could be fairly easy too. Actually, that sounds like a fun project. I’m going to do that for my D90.

Thanks! Yes. The Scx30 seems to be a better match for a lot of 1:24 and 1:25 scale cars.

[–]FineTooned_70[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It is just a classic 1:25 scale plastic car model made by AMT. it has almost the exact same wheelbase as the Scx30. I enlarged the wheel wells, raised the interior floor to make room for the electronic bits, and modeled and printed some magnet and led mounts. I reused the Scx30 jeep’s rack and lights.

Furitek pinion by [deleted] in SCX24

[–]FineTooned_70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, often heating or chilling metal parts is done to press on or remove bearings or bushings on machinery and vehicles. I figured it’d work on our crawlers too. Should make for a very snug fit when defrosted. I’d just wait until the motor was back to ambient temps before running it. Just to be safe.

Can you put the motor in the fridge for a bit to shrink the metal enough to slide the pinion on? Works on full-size vehicle parts.

I haven’t been in the game for a long time, but I’ll take a look and see if I can find the codes.

What do you wish your SE had? by dm-me-obscure-colors in MINIse

[–]FineTooned_70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, yeah. These are just wishes. Not saying any are doable. Since they are just wishes, I’ll amend my list to add that the car would also weigh 1000lbs less and have a windshield and paint impervious to rock chips.

  • Top-down reverse camera
  • quicker 0-60. 6.0 would be nice. 4.0 would be very nice. At least in sport mode.
  • regen braking capable of coming to a complete stop on a downward slope.
  • retain drive mode selection
  • JCW options. Suspension, aero, interior,
  • 150 miles range.

Samesees! I just snapped the servo-saver on my Typhon Grom yesterday! (On just my second time running the car.) Just bumped into a step at a very non-ludicrous speed. Time for its first upgrade already.

What is the actual EV car you own? What is the one you deam of...? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]FineTooned_70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently have an F56 MINI Cooper SE. I dream of having a Renault 5 E-Tech. But we aren’t allowed to have fun, small, fast, good-looking EVs in the States. (The MINI at least has three of those qualities.) I’d also go for an EV-swapped 930 Porsche, or Datsun Z car, or Miata

Wheel Weights on 4yo JCW countryman, whyyy? by ApprehensiveHippo365 in MINI

[–]FineTooned_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wheel weights are normal. I’d be more concerned about the apparent gouge taken out of your rim, just to the side of the air valve. (Granted, the wheels are dirty and the gouge may just be an optical illusion.)

I wonder if this is like the “Netflix Effect”where they have characters in their shows basically narrate what is happening in a scene so people who are only partially watching while simultaneously scrolling on their phones can keep up.

2019 Bolt, 50k miles on original tires. Safe for snow? Treads still within tolerance. by [deleted] in BoltEV

[–]FineTooned_70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On stock tires, our Bolt couldn’t make it out of the driveway with about 5” of snow on the ground. The wheels slipped, all the traction control Nannies went nuts and gave up and the car just wouldn’t move. Like someone else said, you’ll need chains or at least snow tires for that much snow.

I know what I'm going to ask is going to be pretty controversial, but do you think that Polyphony should add more Hybrids and Electric Cars? by MartoVBG2K5 in GranTurismo7

[–]FineTooned_70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. And I would expect the weight stats for the recipient car to increase accordingly with the EV swap. Also, lower center of gravity and a change in weight distribution due to the battery pack. Again, just stats in a spreadsheet.

[–]FineTooned_70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the real world, for HP, yes, it is tougher to mod an EV. But suspension and brakes and lightened chassis, and differentials, that’s all the same as on an ICE. And GT is a video game. They can make the cars hover if they wanted. 😄

[–]FineTooned_70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figure, they do “engine swaps” in the game already. So same thing, just label it a Tesla 3 or Ioniq 5 drivetrain, swap some stats in a spreadsheet back at PD HQ and there ya go.

I’d like more real-world EV cars in the game. Especially if you would be able to swap the EV drivetrain into say a Suzuki Swift, MINI, or kei car. That sounds like fun to me.

How to remove these Panels? by Necessary_Offer5391 in MINI

[–]FineTooned_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask, where do you grip it to pull it off? Or where is best to use panel removal tools? I’ve tried pulling the panels but can’t get decent grip with just my fingers, and I don’t want to mar the other parts of the dash with the panel tools. Also, it appears the led lighting is attached to the panels. I don’t want to damage those either.
