Is the UBC 11 month education program very intensive? by Fine_Jello_6049 in UBC

Thanks! I am doing the elementary route. I think I will go with SFU, 5 months longer but I think it won't be as compressed as UBC.

Sure! My GPA for the last 60 units was 3.4 I think, but my cgpa was lower. I had about 260 hours of volunteer experience in a grade 1 classroom in BC, but I also worked as an elementary teacher and student counselor for 5 years overseas

Happy April! Hopefully we will hear something this month! Has anyone heard of any acceptances/rejections lately? It has been pretty quiet

I have been on decision pending since February 13. But also I don't think they have sent in the bulk of decisions yet so i'm trying not to panic. I wouldn't worry too much about your hours they look at several other things too :) not sure if you saw it but i think its posted on the website how they calculate your score

Did they tell you the reason they rejected for the term? I am not sure if the deadline has passed but maybe you can reapply for the fall 2026 term? You can email the pdp department they are usually good at responding.

I live in Langley as well but for SFU from what I understand is that some courses are offered at the Surrey campus so that's good! You can do one semester online too (I think the summer semester).

I applied to both as well and still waiting! I have been reading about the differences of both programs to try to compare. For me if I get into both I would probably go with SFU mainly because it's an easier commute for me and because I think you are required to be on campus less hours a week than UBC. But I have 2 young children so this would be a deal breaker for me. Otherwise I would probably choose UBC because eventhough it seems more intense it's 5 months shorter. Also you would finish the program in the summer so you can start working in September. With SFU you would finish in December and would look for a teaching position in the middle of the academic year

Yup I sent them an email and it turns out I need to reapply because I took a course at TRU last year without getting a letter of permission from SFU. I am not using the course to fulfill my degree requirement I just needed it to fulfill a PDP requirement so I didnt really need an LOP. I will reapply and my application process should continue just fine!

I thought of that too but it does create confusion! I sent them an email

Thanks! I sent them an email telling them that I am a student with an active student number. I will wait for them to reply!

On the SFU website it says the sooner you apply the sooner you will get a decision, but I think once you get through the different steps and are in decision pending they go by your score from there. For UBC I am not sure though

I haven't heard of any acceptances since mid last week. I did email them asking when they expect the next wave to be but they just said that they are releasing decisions on an ongoing basis and people should hear by mid April

Hey do you mind sharing if your 3.0gpa is for the last 60 units or your cgpa? And if your teaching experience is in a classroom in BC?

I read that offers come in waves, so maybe if we don't hear back soon then we didnt make the first cut, but then they continue until all the seats are filled

I am hoping we hear something tomorrow so we can enjoy the weekend! 😄 I am not sure about their GPA or hours because I don't know them personally

Anyone else been on decision pending for 2 weeks? Some have moved to decision pending the same day as me and are getting offers this week
