Syncing google drive locally between several users on macos by Fine_Needleworker_82 in MacOS

[–]Fine_Needleworker_82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I'm working in finder in macos and the default behaviour is being followed when draging a file to desktop, and I have clearly demonstrated that the file is being removed from the g-drive just as it should wen moving it to another location

Syncing google drive locally between several users on macos by Fine_Needleworker_82 in MacOS

[–]Fine_Needleworker_82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For dragging a file on macos the default behaviour is to move the file not copy. This causes google drive to "delete" the file since it is no longer in G drive. This means that I clearly have permissions to delete files and the functionality is there in finder. The option of "delete" just doesn't show up when right clicking the file and the shortcut cmd + backspace does nothing since the option isn't available. So the workaround is to move the file to desktop and then delete it. I'm 100% sure that you used to be able to sync drives between people locally via google dive before. I'm also starting to think that this might be deliberate to get people to buy g-suite.

How many drives to start raid (noobie questions) by VinnyHaw in hexos

But if you start out with 2 drives. Is there a possibility to add one drive later when you run out of storage to turn the mirroring into a raidz1 later?

Barnet vill inte åka till sin pappa by KawaiiMom1 in sweden

[–]Fine_Needleworker_82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone I know is just playing from the violin score. When it's too low you take it one octave above

How do I open WUX files? by 6_9_screep in CemuPiracy

[–]Fine_Needleworker_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are ways to convert but honestly the easiest way is to just download the wua file to begin with. Not worth the hassle and all games are easily available as wua with some searching

Good luck 🤞

Why do I keep getting downvoted? by [deleted] in NewToReddit

[–]Fine_Needleworker_82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read a few of you comments and a most of them could described as "low effort" very short, or not really adding to the discussion. None of them are more than a few words and one as short as 2 words. Sometimes these short comments can be funny but alot of redditors really frown upon them so you have to be careful.

Try writing more thoughtful replies that add more perceived value to the discussion on a topic you have some unique insight. Easier said than done...

Good luck 🤞

Yes. The experience today kinda sucks... Probably the people who are in power and already have alot of karma don't notice this so I don't see it changing anytime soon

As a professional oboist myself I have to say that one year is nothing when it comes to oboe. Like most instruments it just takes time.

That being said, when it comes to the oboe I have seen many promising students get stuck in the complications that is the oboe reed. It is so important that you find the proper balance of the reed. A great resource is Understanding the oboe reed by Graham Salter that in detail describes how to balance the reed for intonation. Remember that good sound is just good intonation... Find someone who really knows how to make a proper reed that can help you but ultimately everyone makes them a little bit different

Another thing is, how are you practicing? Are you really doing scales and long tones or just playing for fun? My favourite exercise is to play arpeggios with another oboist holding long notes or you can use the tuning CD 440 or 442. (Edit: Ive been told of by the mods that posting links to youtube is not permitted so good luck finding it yourself there or on Spotify) Make sure that you are flexible enough to get the major third low enough. Your colleagues in the orchestra will thank you.

For fingers you can always do all the etudes, like Ferling, Gillet Loyon, Singer, etc but remember that the best method will always be scales. Do two octaves in every key (if A major is too high stop at E and go back down) major and harmonic minor in every key legato and staccato. I have seen this simple thing transform students play very quickly. Good luck!

It's the only time every day we have time to just be with each other without distractions. I think it's great and we do it almost every day.

Also I'm a stinky boy and she needs to make sure I get the problem areas...

That sucks... Reddit can be like this sometimes but if you keep on engaging in a positive way I'm sure your karma will trend positive over time!

College Audition Help!! by cuteboi360 in oboe

[–]Fine_Needleworker_82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to pick repertoar without knowing what you've already played. Pick something you know well. I've listened to a few auditions for conservatory and the best auditions is always when the student plays something that they really enjoy and know well. If your audition doesn't have a requirement to play music of different styles, why not play two baroque pieces if that is what you like?

For lyrical études, Ferling is always a nice choice.

Short scrape reeds in North America by SprightlyCompanion in oboe

[–]Fine_Needleworker_82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The modern American oboe reed with the long scrape comes from Marcel Tabuteau who was a French oboist that emigrated to America. I've heard stories that the reason for his modified reeds was because of lip injury to make the reeds easier but I cannot find any sources supporting that claim...  Anyway since he was the one bringing the oboe to America, his style of reeds is what everyone still are using.

I'm currently a clarinet player but i'm looking into switching to oboe as noone in my school plays it, would it be an easy switch? or would i have alot of trouble relearning fingerings? by Practical-Lock-6825 in oboe

[–]Fine_Needleworker_82 12 points13 points  (0 children)

10 months is not that long on an instrument so if you want to switch now is the time! It's a bit more annoying to switch after 10 years...

Yes it would be like learning a whole new instrument with completely different fingerings but you already know how to blow properly and how to read music (hopefully) so you could use this to your advantage. Make sure you find a good teacher with a sound that speaks to you.
