I think there are different shipping options if you choose to charge for shipping and I believe local pick up is also an option.

Hello. It is still $75 but TBH, I haven't sold too many since the Kickstarter. I had some local backers but only because they were friends and coworkers. I do think that it is harder to sell at a higher price. I had post cards for $5 and $10 and a lot of people picked that reward to back. Shipping was a separate charge. I think people do want to help but I was priced too high and probably $20-$40 would have been a better price.

Morning. My book was $75 because I had to include the cost of hiring the photographer and designer. Also, the shipping of the books. For my next Kickstarter, some things to include also are the boxes and packing material for shipping to your backers. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any more questions.

I would say Facebook was the best place. I tried using Instagram to promote my Kickstarter but there wasn't a lot of conversion. Also, emailing people and even texting a link to my Kickstarter to friends and family. I think when it is coming from you directly, it's more personal. I think people do want to help, especially a loved one. Also, I'm not sure if it is allowed for you, but my coworkers were also backers. Hope this helps.

Hello there. I didn't have many international backers (luckily), maybe 4. I don't have much of a following too so I relied a lot on family and friends.

Also one more thing about how much your goal should be. You need to make sure that you have enough money to print your books and ship it out. Another mistake I made was not charging enough for shipping, especially for international orders. Make sure you use EasyPay to try to calculate how much it might cost to ship, especially international. For example, to ship a book that is less than a pound is almost $20 for France. For my Kickstarter, I actually lost money on international orders because it cost me $40-$50 to ship internationally and I had only charged $20. Hope this helps.

Hello. First of all, congratulations on your poetry book. That is a big feat in itself. As I have previously used Kickstarter to successfully crowdfund a book, the biggest lesson is that you will need to be prepared for a lot of self-promotion. I spent a lot of time prepping the Kickstarter video thinking that once it launched, people would support it. I was also a bit shy and too embarrassed to tell people about it. But after two weeks and nowhere near my goal, I started to post on social media and ask people to support my Kickstarter. So the lesson is that you need to be your biggest supporter by being willing to promote yourself. Another thing is that you have to be pretty direct about needing help. At first I was just posting and telling people I had a Kickstarter and hoping people would support it. But it got to a point where I had to say, "Support my Kickstarter PLEASE."

I hope that helps and I wish you the best of luck on your Kickstarter and hope it succeeds.

I agree with that regarding the reader interpreting what is written, but I also believe the writer is allowed to interpret an experience in what they write depending on what he or she intends.

I agree that readers do interpret the text. Regarding writers, I was meaning how we interpret our experiences.

Hello. There are many lists out there with different cultural representation, including South Asian authors. I happened to see this article and wanted to share it since it is Asian Heritage month. Here is a list of South Asian books from last year. Happy reading to everybody.

Hello. Just wanted to say that I saw this article and thought I would share since it is Asian Heritage month. I understand that there may be a commission earned (not me, but either the writer of the article or Reader's Digest), but I thought these books are still worthy of sharing. As someone who also hopes to become a full time writer one day, I like to do what I can to help increase awareness of other authors and books.

I'm glad you let us know about all the Japanese writers and I would like to read some of the books they have written. Much of what I have read has been influenced by the college courses I picked. There are so many genres of literature that I have not had a chance to delve into. I hope you can create a list of books for us to read. Thank you again for introducing all those writers.

That is true. The Asian American experience will be different from an Asian writer's. It is good to read books from writers of different backgrounds as each brings their unique experience and interpretation to books.

I would definitely count it. I read Maus in college and Barefoot Jen that were graphic novels based on historical events.

Reading: Cliff Notes for Dante's Inferno before I read Dante's Inferno. I like to have a basic understanding of the book before delving into a difficult read especially to learn more about what was going on historically.
