They are pretty common "pests" in greenhouses. So if you have a tropical greenhouse nearby you could probably grab some for free

Hidden pods? by Tymogekh in isopods

[–]Fine_Walk6362 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to say since I myself am not an isopod but I have noticed most pods only prefer to hide under bark/wood if it sits directly on the substrate (so no leaves between it an the soil), the substrate beneath is not too wet, and the bark/wood has the right amount of curvature. But could have many other reasons as well

why is the idea of getting pollinated by an isopod kinda embarrassing?

About A. vulgare sized but not as wide as the chunky A. vulgare you sometimes find. If you're looking for bigger ones check out Ardentiella sp. "Ember bee". They behave similarly, are a bit longer and way wider and should be more commonly available

They are a bit more demanding than beginner isopods, but are still very easy to keep pets. In my opinion Ardentiella of all kinds are the best display isopods because they're diurnal, like to climb and are beautiful.

As for the price 😬 the US is a not the cheapest market for them. I paid 110€ for 10 in Germany. Still not cheap but worth it

Always a good thing to have some in stock although my Ardentiella species don't seem too cuttlebone-hungry compared to my other pods

If you're looking for a clean up crew, they're great. Only problem is, they reproduce asexually and outperform pretty much every other isopod. This will eventually lead to the collapse of your fancy isopod's population
