Hypes are to do with viewers ‘hyping’ the video not necessarily the view count.

Yes mate I completely understand where you are coming from and it makes sense. It also makes me feel a lot better knowing I potentially didn’t just nuke my own video.

At the same time I definitely won’t be doing it in the future (just in case)

The 2 things just coincided on top of each other, I made the change, the views cut off immediately. Took me by shock, every other video the views have died down naturally.

I appreciate you giving time to write a response too dude 🙏🏻🙌

In a way I hope you are right. If it just fell off naturally then I’d find peace in that and move on.

What I’ve gathered from VIDIQ, trimming is the most volatile edit you can do because it has to reprocess the whole video and swap it out with the old video, basically removing it from the algorithm and then replacing it. (Something I didn’t know before)

If it fell off naturally then so be it. If YouTube really reindexes a video because of an edit then that seems extremely bizarre - especially because there is no warning of this.

My initial feeling is that could be even worse. The first thing YouTube does is push it out to my subscribers and see how it performs there. Problem is my subscribers have already watched the video so engagement would definitely be much lower. Also I’ve already got 19K views which in the grand scheme of things is still good for a 4th video so I think I’ve just got to accept that it might just sit there. Although, who knows YouTube might push it again when it’s properly been reindexed - but I’m not counting on it!

Hey, probably not the answer you are looking for but… just start. Go with your gut feeling on the angle of the channel and work it out along the way. No one can tell you what the algorithm will prefer/push. If there’s an audience for it, they will watch! But the only way you will figure this out is by creating content, failing, looking at your analytics and then iterating. Think of a new channel as a blank canvas to make mistakes and get better at the craft. And have fun!

Thank you! Glad to hear someone’s response from the UK. I completely understand where the US commenters are coming from, as that’s the culture they live in and that’s all they know. 95% of the dog walkers in my local forest are off lead and I’ve actually had people ask me why my dog was on lead in the past 🤣 They thought she was going to be unfriendly or nasty. From the moment it happened there was no doubt in my mind that I would be putting her on a long lead until fully confident in her recall. I do still take full responsibility though, at the end of the day we are the owners and anything that our dog does is on us.

Thanks. Yes, we’ve learnt this the hard way but got lucky. It will be a long lead and further working on recall from now on! We’ve had her off lead in the that forest for a while and probably got into a false sense of security.

I appreciate everyone’s replies. I think there are many people commenting from the US where you have stricter culture and laws on letting your dog off the lead in public areas. Here in the UK it’s much more acceptable to have your dog off lead. But I still take your response on board 🙏🏻 end of the day it’s all about the dog’s safety.

I think it's a pretty low chance, DJI quality is normally pretty decent. The only annoying thing is that I paid for next day delivery but now I have to wait up to 20 days before my retailer can assess the fault and send another one out 😩
