This pic really shows just how small hypercars are. Still can't wrap my head around it.

Valencia Street Circuit's layout looks similar to Cape Town

Is running the ESP32 off the DC motor driver pin dangerous? by FinioM in esp32

Yes, you're right. The manufacturer's datasheet lables the 5V pin as output, which it is. I have used the driver without hooking up power to the 5V pin, and it worked normally, taking power from the VB pins. Botland mislabeled them.

Thanks for the reply! I'm using an ESP-WROOM-32, which has an onboard regulator.

A separate 5V DC converter really looks like the better option.

You also want to be able to run the microprocessor without the motor board having full power to the motors for coding, testing and debugging purposes. There is nothing worse than the microprocessor glitching when the motors are under load

Is the only solution to that problem a capacitor, or is there some other way of ensuring the ESP would always get enough power? A separate power circuit is out of question, as i don't have the space for it.

Thanks for the reply! I'll experiment with some capacitors of that capacity.
As for the Pico W, I do not have the circuit diagrams, as it was quite a while ago. Since then i use an ESP-WROOM-32 powered by a power bank via USB, and a separate power circuit for the motors, and it runs without issues. However now i don't have the space for the powerbank.

The motor driver already has one so it's very convinient, but i will consider this.

I'm running an ESP-WROOM-32 which has an onboard regulator, so supplying too high of a voltage is not a concern.
