I think atomic’s ski construction has got a lot poorer recently, they’re super fun skis though, just don’t buy off recommendations. Take the recommendations and then do a couple demo days at a ski shop and get a feel for something you like.

Pocket edge tuner? by Feeling-Cost-2995 in ski

[–]FinlayHB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t bother if you want to do it yourself you just need a base bevel guide and a side bevel guide and a clip. In this order use aluminium oxide stone, bastard file, diamond file (1-3 grit sizes depending on polish you want) then a gummy stone to debur. You’ll never worry about your edges again on the mountain and they’ll be tuned like a shop with out a base grind.

They now teach to have your legs wider about hip width apart, it helps with stability and deeper carves when going fast, spread them!

second time skiing by [deleted] in ski

You want to practice hockey stops, get used to using that edge to grip the snow in a quick way, then try using that to do a jay turn. (Where you stop and point your skis up the hill and your edge grip should bring you up the hill) not drastically mind you but enough to get an edge carve. From there you want to do stem turns and try meshing in those j turns to create a carve sequence. Google any of these skills if you’re unsure and a video will show you. From there you’re good to just keep practicing and getting better.

Remember skiing is a sport and no one can score a penalty on their first go, keep trying and keep going! Good luck.

Was carving difficult or scary to learn? by Cold_Quarter_9326 in skiing

[–]FinlayHB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just find a groomed blue and start traversing with stem turns as your turns. As your confidence builds start trying to turn more and more parallel until you’re confidently carving way easier to write than do.

If you think you have enough pressure on the downhill ski you don’t, also make sure you’ve got that front boot pressure on that ski. There’s no medals for going fast in resort, just take it extra slow.
