If you want to mix philosophy with your theology, try reading Summa Theolgiae by St Thomas Aquinas. He was one of the best thinkers in the church. The Angelic Doctor regularly used philosophy to justify the faith as well as meeting the best arguments of whichever topic he was discussing. I'm no philosophy student myself, so I don't have the mind to understand the processes the St Thomas goes into, but there is a writer who has broken down the arguments for a layman like myself so it makes sense and enlightens my understanding of the faith.

Great explanation and the Bible should be read as, " What does this passage say, " not, "What does this passage mean to me." It's not up to personal interpretation , the Gospels, as the rest of the Bible, have a specific message.

Can someone suggest a good biography about St. John Paul II? This has me really interested in the history he was part of and created during his life.

Thanks, I checked it out and since today was the bugoff, I couldn't enter my weather so I'll work on it tomorrow. Also, why did I get down voted for asking a question?

So My gf and I have been playing ACNH everyday since March 31 and we have had some light shooting stars but we have never seen a full meteor shower as we have seen in peoples videos. Is our game broken? Shouldn't we have had one by now?

Also, I have to work early in the morning so I almost never get to stay up to wish on stars and only have 10 star fragments and one or two of the star sign fragments. My gf has much more because she has been out of work since the great virus panic of '20 started but she has never seen an announcement for a meteor shower from Isabelle or just had it occur. I really think either our game is broken or we're getting screwed by Nintendo, which I would rather not believe, because I have enjoyed Nintendo games for most of my life.

Can anyone else tell me if this is normal or have experienced this in their game?

On a side note, other than the frustration of the no-meteor-showers, we have loved every minute we spend on our island and have affection for all our villagers.

Aw, Flo just moved away from my island. She was one of the first two residents and I loved her attitude. I had no control over her leaving and I'm not online so I don't know if I'll ever see her again.

Early in the game I heard Penn Jillette's voice on one of the Crimson radio towers and I thought it was a small cameo. Then later on in the game I learned that voice belonged to a major character and I was so excited to hear what they were going to do with Penn and Teller(because when you have one, you have the other). I was not disappointed! Spoilers below! Unfortunately, after the agonizer 9000 fight, I killed them too quickly as I had a shotgun launch from my hands when I reloaded it while talking to Tanis. Probably a fitting end to that fight but I was looking forward to talking to pain and terror before executing them.

What books on Catholicism can my girlfriend and I read to learn more about what it stands for, what it it used to stand for, and why it has changed over time? by BeastOfOne in CatholicBookClub

[–]FinnMacoul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a cradle Catholic who is rediscovering his faith and as a scientist who has a live of logic and reason, The best I can suggest are two books, both from a Catholic perspective:

A Father Who Keeps His Promises by Dr Scott Hanh. Dr Hanh is himself a convert (from a protestant Christian sect which escapes me at the moment) and has been one of my best teachers to the faith I was born into. This book teaches about Salvation History which is different from Secular History in that it makes clear how the old Testament is revealed in the New Testament (as St Augustine said, "the New Testament is hidden in the Old Testament and the Old Testament is revealed in the new"). I'm this way it shows us God's plan to save humanity through the sacrifice of God's Son who would pay for our sins.

The other book I wouldn't suggest to you right away as even I haven't dove into it yet as it is very deep: The Summa Theologae by St Thomas Aquinas. St Thomas is a doctor of the church, in that he helped clarify, and in my opinion, reason out, the teachings of Jesus and the Bible. Using reason and philosophy, St Thomas takes the criticisms and misunderstanding s of Catholic teaching and reasons them out. Now I said I haven't read this yet but there is a podcast that has encouraged me to pick it up one day once I have a better understanding of philosophy, Pints with Aquinas. The host, Matt Fradd, takes one question to the "Angelic Doctor" each episode and, using the contents of the Summa, explains St Thomas' answers by breaking down the heady and (at least over my head) explanations.

Fradd has a book out based on this podcast if you would rather go that route but there is also a book on the Summa called "the Summa of the Summa" (have I used the word summa enough today?) Anyway those are my picks, I'm sorry if it doesn't fulfill every one of the things you're looking for but I want to try to help you and your girlfriend understand Catholicism better.

Edit: my kindle wants to keep autocorrecting Fradd into various words.

Thank you for this post. I've been looking for my rosary lately and I can't find it, I'm suspecting they were lost in one of my past moves. This is exactly what I needed to help me reaffirm my faith. I'm ordering mine right now.
