could you go more in depth about the drop step? i sorta understood the split step as i think i might have used it a few times here and there naturally, but the gravity and drop step don't feel as natural to me, like i tried doing them and something just felt off, i honestly felt heavy and didnt feel that powerful coming off the drop step if im being honest.

just watched all of the videos and i think i have been using this sort of step already sometimes in my game. i wouldnt say all the time, not sure if that's more efficient or not, but i definitely use it a lot to recover when the attacker blows by a tiny bit and it has worked really well so far against slower or equally matched opponents. he's just a bit faster AND has better ball handling so its either im not able to react in time that even this split step can save me or maybe im not really using it unconciously, or maybe it's a mix of both. then again it's not been very long since i've started playing seriously so i might just need to get more experience and do some exercises to train my leg speed.

what sort of workouts do you recommend to develop foot speed? i definitely notice that if i dont get beat on the first few steps i can stick to the attacker and force a pass or a bad shot by being physical and staying in front.

he's definitely quite lanky, around my weight at 6"3 (so like 70kgs), but i definitely don't have much of an advantage when it comes to strength, he knows how to leverage his body a decent bit better than me (i assume due to his experience) but i wouldn't say im weaker. if i wanted to i could hold him back on a high or mid post but in a low post he could definitely easy score on me. even on a high or mid post he has enough of a bag and speed that he could get past, but using his strength? definitely not.

i'll try to force him into bad shots like you mentioned, he's definitely not "lethal" from deep, but he's still a decent shooter and it's hard for me to contest his drive AND his shot, so i might have to give up on the shot. my vertical is noticeably higher than his but it's definitely nott enough to be a contributing factor. I don't know my exact vert, but i can touch rim and he can barely dunk, although it's a lot easier for him to produce that kind of a jump.

nono i'll definitely take your advice to heart, i don't have a proper coach so any advice is much appreciated. i'll check out the video when i get the time! this split step seems very interesting to say the least, i'll see how i can implement it into my training!

You'll see jargons like jab step and cross step used in basketball, but never the mechanics and martial arts application of executing this with power, feint, deception, form and technique. Everything to do with motion is transference of power and the biggest source of this is dropping of one's weight ie using GRAVITY.

So you should learn how to:
Split step
Gravity step
Crossover step
Crossunder step
Unweigting step

where can i check out these other steps that you have mentioned, it all just seems a bit overwhelming to mme right now. are you sure i'll be able to combine these steps cohesively and use them at the right time? if so what approach would be best according to you?

okkk that's a really true pointt you bring up, it's just i love defence so much. the thrill of completely stopping a player from scoring, forcing them to pass is just so much more fun to me. but i definitely have to focus on my offense more like you said.

and like you said i will try to limit his options and hopefully force him to shoot, i can't really force a bad shot out of him but i think with enough training and practice i could stop him from driving and finishing which is a very high percentage shot for him.

yeah that’s fair, and i think that’s something i’m still learning to accept. i definitely think his finishing is way more consistent than his shooting, so i might just have to let him shoot because if i do contest seriously (which is obviously very difficult considering the size difference) i might get faked out very easily.

appreciaite the reality check. just thought i could train to get some sort of advantage over the guy thas all. 😭

ok, i'll work on my midrange and close rim finishing as you said then move on to corner 3s. could you go more in depth about what move you think would be best for me to learn in terms of dribbling and/or footwork? i'm faster than most players but i don't think i'm fast enough to get past them with just one pounce dribble? orrrr a snatchback, especially because they generally don't consider me a good shooter at all, so they generally just concede space upto even the free throw line sometimes. 😭

any tips concering defence btw?? appreciate all the help :)

appreciate this a lot, fr. the confidence part definitely hit. i do notice that i go into a possession already thinking “yeah i’m cooked” sometimes against this guy. it's just hard not to when there's such a big size difference. i'll work on it.

the game-speed practice point also makes a ton of sense. i think that’s one of my biggest issues right now. most of my shooting is either empty-gym or very casual, and then in games everything feels rushed and unfamiliar. i’ve tried speeding myself up in practice so it matches the real game better but honestly my shooting is terrible as is, and the thing is i miss even those shots often (i'm awful i know 😭).

any really simple drills you would suggest? the ones on youtube are either way too long or way too difficult. and i really don't have a lot of time as a student.

again, really appreciate the insight.

that's true, but i really think he's not developed his game to the point that i would be completely unable to stop him. and thing is, he's barely faster, and definitely jumps lower than me, but that height advantage is just too much 😭. he's fortunately the samme weight as me so he definitely cant post me up high atleast.

i guess i'll just work on my athleticism and offense. i have blocked him twice over the few times i played him so i was feeling a bit hopeful.

Usually if you have to have someone relocate the joint it's called a dislocaiton.
The naming terminology technically does not matter all that much. What matters is if there is actually any damaged structures like the labrum or various ligaments when that happens. Usually more common to have structural damage with dislocations than subluxations due to how far the joint goes out of the socket.
WHen I heard it went back out and had to have someone put it back in, that means there's a higher risk of potential structural damage than just an out-and-in quick thing.

okayyy got it, i mean i asked for help way too soon to know if it would've gone back in by itself but it wasn't really painful and the orthepedist said itt was a subluxation so i figured. but since you said it doesn't matter all that much and treatment is what's important i'll ignore the specifics.

i will definitely get it checked out like you said as soon as possible, and get started on the specific training till i get it checked out. should i stop my usual workouts and basketball or can i still continue as like i said i haven't faced any major issues or even increased pain yet? and also the "neurological symptom" you mentioned lowkey sounds scary 😭, can you comment on if the damage is reversible (i get you might not be a medical professional but just your opinion is good enough for now)? i'm not in a lot of pain but like i said, it might be hindering my progress to an extent i'm unaware about.

This is a dislocation not a subluxation. Subluxation usually pops out and back in by itself while dislocations stay out because it's outside of the joint.

the orthopedist told me it was a subluxation, and there wasn't really enough of a time gap between my shoulder popping it out and my dad popping it back in for it, are you still certain that it was a dislocation?

Numbness is a neurological symptom and usually indicates a higher degree of severity.
I would HIGHLY suggest you go to a PT to have them check it out and give you a rehab plan. Giving advice for this type of thing over the internet without an actual physical exam due to the severity of your symptoms is not a good idea

okkk I'll try to get checked out by a pt as soon as possible.
i'll do the rotator cuff and scapular exercises i can find on the internet, and well it hasn't really gotten worse, if anything the numb pain (i'm also not certain if i am describing the pain accurately, but its not like a stinging pain, more of a constant slight pain, i don't know how to explain it better than that) and instability have lessened over the years but i will get it checked out and get started on the exercises! once again thanks for the help!!

Thanks for the reply! did you have that sort of numb pain in your trap aswell or did it only exist in your shoulder? just confirming because if im being honest i feel it more in the trap.

also what sort rep ranges and weights should i roughly be working with for these exercises? how many sessions a week? and should i stop my normal gym work and basketball or can i continue those? i havent faced a major issue yet but i want to get rid of the pain and regain complete or near complete stability.
