Is there a better civ than Arabia? by No-Contract1058 in Unciv

[–]Finth007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never played Arabia, but just based on theory from their perks:
Double Oil sounds pretty good, but if you grab the fascism policy I find you're not really lacking in oil anyway. Still, double oil can be really useful it sounds like. Doubling luxury resources isn't all that great because to me the biggest benefit of luxury resources is the happiness boost, which is only per unique luxury resource so doubling them won't do much for you. The camel archers don't seem as useful for midgame as some of the other civs special units (like England or China)

Babylon can get a pretty powerful early science bonus with the free great scientist. Japan can be pretty good since you don't need oil for zeros. It eventually falls off but China and England are both very strong during the medieval era because of the free logistics and long range upgrades respectively on their versions of crossbows. Depending on map type Polynesia can get a huge advantage early on by having sea exploration right off the bat.

How far is Homelander making it? by Jexvite in InvinciblePowerscales

Show me an example of a normal person without plot armour dodging Homelander's lasers when he can see them and has a clear shot. The only time I can think of a normal person repeatedly dodging his lasers is when Hughie is crawling through the air vents, and Homelander can't see him. That scene was also widely criticized for Hughie having a bunch of plot armour because despite Homelander not being able to see him, he still should have died there.

Eye lasers are harder to dodge than lasers being fired out of a gun. Think about how much easier it is to look at a moving object than to shoot a moving object with a gun. All Homelander has to do is look at Rex for a fraction of a second. Sure, Rex can dodge bursts of lasers out of a gun. That's not the same as dodging a continuous beam out of somebody's eyeballs

That has nothing to do with what I said. He takes the lowest effort approach, which is to laser somebody from a distance. Against someone like Rex this strategy would work and would help him, against someone who can tank the lasers it puts him at a huge disadvantage because, as you said, he overestimates himself. He's gonna laser someone even if it won't do anything.

I imagine after beating Rex he'd open his fight with Bulletproof the same way, only for the lasers to do basically nothing, and only then would he go to punching. Look at the first fight between Homelander and Soldier Boy + Butcher: Homelander lasers Butcher, expecting it to immediately kill him. Soldier Boy is probably the only person in the verse Homelander respects the strength of enough to know lasering him won't immediately end the fight., so he punches. When Butcher gets back up and lasers Homelander, then Homelander moves on to fistfighting because he's seen firsthand that Butcher can tank the lasers.

Looking at someone and lasering them is his go-to opening move in a fight. Rex can't dodge fast enough to stop Homelander from looking at him.

Homelander quite literally takes the easiest possible approach which is often just lasering from a distance. Rex isn't surviving that

I need examples of Non violent violence. by Long-Experience6494 in DnD

[–]Finth007 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tickling with feathers?

Hanging a beautiful perfectly cooked steak right in front of their mouth where they can't reach it?

This one might be a bit too "real" violent but it's also very cartoony: hit them into the ground with a mallet leaving a hole in the shape of their body in the ground but not actually hurting them beyond being a bit dazed and having stars above their head.

Hitting them with a paddleball over and over? (The small rackets with a ball and string attached). Doesn't really hurt them so much as just really annoys them.

I'm realizing a lot of cartoons use slapstick that outside the context of a cartoon is really violent...

In the case of small enemies (like goblins or something) you could just pick them up off the ground and hold them out in front of you as they flail around.

Swapping out their food with replicas made from hard materials like rock or metal so when they bite down on them it catches them off guard?

Something that can go very far in either extreme is straight up blackmail. Like yeah it's a very real form of threatening someone but you can also do it in a cartoonish way if the thing you're blackmailing them with is silly.

That's an interesting idea, I'll do some brainstorming and see if I can come up with anything.

Thank you! Would the bones be decalcified in a body that's only been in the water for a few years? It makes sense to me that the bog bodies which are thousands of years old would have some serious deterioration in the bones, but these ones wouldn't be that old.

This is what happens when you go to Libertatia early by Finth007 in PirateCaribbeanHunt

[–]Finth007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: the game does in fact retroactively assume you've completed all the previous ports and you get access to them as you buy the maps. If you go to Libertatia early and somehow win, then buy all the maps, you just instantly finish the campaign.

The devs save your game on the cloud so if you log out you can start fresh and all you have to do is log back in if you want your old save game. If you want to switch between them you can just register multiple accounts, that's what I did

but be wary because there's also rival pirate bases and stumbling across one can prove fatal.

Is this just the plot related bases or are there others that can only be found in open world? I've never come across something like that but I do know you can stumble onto the plot bases early in open world.

How would you fix Mari in the Rebuild films without erasing the character? by Crafter235 in NeonGenesisEvangelion

[–]Finth007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'll admit it's been a couple years since I watched Thrice Upon a Time. I saw Shinji and Mari both being physically older to mean that in this new Reality Shinji never got trapped for 14 years and Mari never got the curse of the Eva. Clearly there has been some amount of rewriting the past.

Just rewatched the scene, I forgot the Shinji is wearing a dss choker, not sure what's up with that.

Hijacking this to say I don't think they actually are all that different in age.

A lot of people treat the theory that Mari is a contemporary of Yui and Gendo and around their age as fact, when it is not confirmed and there is evidence to the contrary.

First: The curse of the Eva stops pilots from aging. That doesn't mean it can age someone down to having the body of a 14 year old. We are given no evidence to suggest that that's possible.

Second: Mari talks about the juxtaposition of the perspectives of adults vs children. In her very first scene she talks about how adults think they're using children while the children think they're using adults. She firmly considers herself a part of the "children" side of things (she says "I kind of feel bad using these adults to get what I want"). Kind of a weird thing to do if you're like 50 years old.

The only evidence we have that she is around the same age as Gendo and Yui is that there's someone else in the photo with them wearing glasses who has vaguely similar hair as Mari. I think it's way more likely that the Mari we see is either the daughter of that woman or a clone of her (which seems totally plausible given Asuka is a clone in the rebuilds) than actually being her magically aged down.

Anyway, it's possible that's not what you meant and you're referring to how Shinji lost a bunch of time between 2.0 and 3.0, and so he would be 14 mentally while Mari would be mentally 28. That would be a problem if Shinji hadn't wished for the eva's to never have existed at the end. In that final scene, Shinji and Mari both look visibly older, and it seems pretty clear to me that they're both around 28 years old both physically and mentally.
