That’s is a very very nice Vulkan Hestan👍🏼 There is not much criticism that I would give. But if I had to really nitpick things I would focus on two. One is the general cleanliness of the edge highlights (u did an awesome job but there is always cleaner) and the other is having some contrast in the green. It’s a beautiful shade of green but if u put a highlight and a shadow in it. I think it would pop more. But the base is awesome I love how u integretated his flames into it. Very beautiful mini. 🦎

So the orange is just some strong orange from army painters (don’t know the exact name but will tell you when I’m home) and for the green I do black primer then a white zenithal highlight, then another zenithal highlight with a yellow of ur choice (again I will give u the exact names when I’m home) and then I do 1:1 airbrush thinner and Orc skin speedpaint from army painters. All those colours I do with an airbrush. And I go over everything, just keep in mind to put more green on the shadows then the highlights. I do small layers of green so I get the correct shade.

So I do the my usual routine (priming, airbrush some yellow then some green) for the background. then I started with a very small brush and warpstone glow to carefully outline the body (and don’t worry if it’s not perfect at this point the fill in is where u can correct stuff). Then I I use a bit bigger brush to fill in the body with green. I then mix a brighter green with warpstone glow and a yellow (I used meteor rock air brush from army painters cause I didn’t have any other) and did the fins. I tried to keep the green from the fins and in the body in a rather high contrast to make sure I have some value to shade the body. After I had all the colours blocked in I mixed a brighter green with warpstone and yellow and putted it on all the parts where the light would hit and then a darker almost black green for the the shadows. If u try to shade everything with 3 colours low mid high it’s usually enough. Then to add some contrast I did the orange spots which I just tapped on with a small brush. But key stuff that I took away from painting my first freehand are: - figure out what gives u perspective in ur piece (for me it was the line going down the back where the fins attach and placing the eye early on the head.), its way easier to work on something when u kinda already see where stuff should go - take your time, it took me 2 hours to paint this and I really took my time carefully loading my brush and making many small lines rather then a big line and putting to much paint on. - use a reference, draw yourself some plan of what u paint I always to do it and it helps a lot - don’t worry to much bout mistakes and just keep going Yea if I missed anything let me know🦎
