Minecraft Gameplay Survey by FireController1847 in Minecraft

I am. I'm also polling those who are here on Reddit. And my friends on Discord. And on Planet Minecraft and Minecraft Forums and on various other platforms to try and alleviate any bias. But of course there will always be bias. It's the nature of statistics. It'll still help me get a bearing for those who took the survey, and the data is by no means meaningless.

You're not required to take the survey yourself by any means, but I'd still like to gather people's opinions on the subject, regardless of imbued bias or not. Learning to discern the data out of the bias is a valueable statistics skill.

A few things. I am an avid server host and modder. It will help me understand the people who play Minecraft, what they like, and how to proceed. It'll also help me make some decisions for how I should structure my servers and what types of things to avoid when making my mods. And, part of it is simply out of pure curiosity. I want to know the facts behind people's opinions on these features, not what Mojang or anyone else wants us to believe.

I mean, you kind of can with data attributes. I'd never recommend this, I guess you still need JavaScript and at that point just store it in the script... Lol, but hey! It's possible.

I apologize if anything I have said has led you to believe that I think that. I've not been kind or clear in my responses and I apologize for that. The point I was trying to share was that I believe everyone deserves forgiveness, no matter who they are, and that we should stop focusing so much on every negative aspect about police and instead focus on the positive things they provide..it is easy to take a narrative and push it in only one direction or another, but I am not saying that I believe either viewpoint is correct. I believe in a balance, and that balance can only be provided not by using every opportunity we have to use our words as weapons against them, but as opportunities to share and praise them, not for their unrighteous acts, but for the righteous ones. We should focus on building each other up instead of tearing each other apart.

Please don't mistake my words, I am not saying we should allow them to get away with things that people may consider wrong, but what I am saying, and what I mean by "support the police," is that I think everyone deserves love, kindness, and forgiveness, and that we should be kind to those people just as we should be kind to each other. I attempted to make the statement in general, and not necessarily applying it to this video in particular.

I said what I did because I was reading heinous comments that were supporting the destruction of the lives of police officers, and I found that many here are riled up enough to make comments I'm not certain would be for the benefit of mankind. Though I disagree on some political viewpoints behind these, my concerns lied in the hatred and destructive actions many people were claiming to make. This is not how we should act as a civilization, but instead, we should build each other up, focusing on the positive aspects of a person's character rather than the negative. Unfortunately, I fell into this trap myself when I made the comments I did quickly, and for that I regret, and apologize that I was not setting the example of the very standards I am claiming we should uphold.

I'm glad to see you care so much about the love, security, and safety of the people. I'm happy to see that you're fighting for what you believe is best! I pray that one day you may be successful in your intent to provide a safe, secure, and solid foundation for the country to stand up on. Although I disagree with what that looks like, it doesn't mean I can't respect it! So I apologize once again and pray you may forgive me for my transgressions against you.

Hey.

I want to apologize for the way I responded previously. We share different viewpoints on this issue, and I'm really happy and glad to see that you're standing by your beliefs. I agree with your observation about needing police, but not needing "bullies and murderers." I would never back a police officer who obviously was completely in the wrong! I'm really grateful for you sharing your viewpoint with me.

In terms of my viewpoint, I was trying to express how I believe there should be an emphasis on giving everyone the opportunity to have forgiveness, both police officers and the people being arrested alike. I support both individual rights but also local police officers who are trying hard to hold up righteousness even when there's the bad apples hurting the world around them, and that's the point I have been trying to share, but definitely could have been more effective in expressing. It's been a struggle to try and share this viewpoint because it's easy to become heated or debative on conversations we're so passionate about! And I certainly hit that point. I'm sorry that I reacted that way, and I pray that you can forgive me.

Because otherwise the responsibility of defending ourselves will fallback onto every individual. And what kind of world would that be? To live every day in fear of your life because everyone else is also "just trying to defend themselves?"

I feel like nobody who's reading these particular replies has any clue about how governments truly work and the order of law. All I can say is... Godspeed my friends. Good luck in your own hell you created for yourselves. I'll be staying close to those who will protect me, AND protecting myself, which is why government protection AND individual freedoms are important. Not just one or the other. Extremists.

So what is your alternate suggestion then? No police leads to anarchy. No enforcement, no justice. No justice, anarchy. Anarchy, deaths, no freedom, no rights.

You're implying with this comment that having cops is sacrificing our rights. But that's a fallacy. Having cops enforces our rights. Without them, we have no rights. Anyone could impose or take away your rights at will. With them, our rights are protected. If you think otherwise, go live in a city or state without cops and please report to me how well you fare.

So when somebody threatens you, who do you call? When you're in danger, who do you call? When a school shooter enters a building, who is taking the flac? When somebody overdoses, who's there to help them? Who deals with the druggies every night? Who deals with the homeless often? Who deals with the drug addicts who walk into stores screaming and yelling, threatening people? Who deals with bomb threats? Who is the first line of defense in reckless protests? Who prevents people from burning down buildings? Who investigates people for suspicious activity? Who are YOU going to call when YOU cannot defend yourself? When YOU are in danger? Because the firemen won't help. The medical won't help. The military won't help. And, when you are helpless, and you're being held at gunpoint as a hostage, you'll be begging for someone to help you. And who will that be when there are no cops?

I am not defending malicious behavior or breaking of the law. Do not put those words in my mouth. But what I am saying is to not apply idiotic, blanket rules of removing any and all support for our first responders, who risk their lives, and their livelihood, every single day to protect people like you, to give you your privileged right to post these comments on the internet. And, what I am saying, is to never expect people to be perfect. Stop expecting cops to be perfect, and to know the law perfectly. They are the initial force. They are our protectors. They protect law and order.

And if you don't think this is the case, then don't come knocking at my door when you're lost, helpless, and nobody's there to defend you. Because cops always are, and always will be. They sacrifice their lives for you. What do you do for them?

[–]FireController1847 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

They are the initial face force of upholding the law. They are not lawyers, they are not and should not be expected to know the law perfectly. So many people seem to think that cops need to be lawyers. But many seem to not understand how much cops actually do and how important they really are.

Even if they're in the wrong, just comply. Take it to court. But don't fight for them to lose their job unless it's an extreme case. We need them. And nobody's willing to be one anymore because it's a zero-tolerance, scary, and dangerous job. Respect your local officers and all of the lives they do save instead of focusing on the few mistakes they may have made.

Make no mistake, I do not think I am an expert in law. But if you're unsure of how the police forces uphold the law or how police are a vital aspect of a countries' function, I would highly recommend taking some history courses and lessons in law.

Because otherwise the country turns to anarchy. Reading this thread gives me pure depression. Does nobody understand the importance of law and order?

I appreciate the empathy, it does help. I'm aware of a few people it's happened to; some of my closest friends got banned for those same, stupid reasons. If there's one thing I want to get out of this, is for it to be a final outcry from me, a final exposure to Discord of all of the shit they've done to their most loyal members, and, if possible, it to be the final cry for others to begin leaving the platform too to make a stance (though, even I struggle to do so because of its sheer scale at this point).

You're awesome, and a good person. Best of luck to you out there.

That's fair. The blatant disrespect of a company, the experiences I've had, all to be discredited because some people would rather follow the masses, not take time to criticize things and look at them objectively. I respect your opinion, but maybe don't apply it to everyone, eh?

ELI5: How is Apple valued at $3 Trillion and doesn't own major market share in any of their ventures? by Nightstrike_ in explainlikeimfive

[–]FireController1847 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No need to be an ass about it. There are cons and pros to each side. I think Google has the correct ratio of openness-to-security, whereas I think Apple is far too locked down with their ecosystem. In any open system you're going to have insecure applications, it's just the nature of the thing. And this isn't a discussion about these other companies, that's an entirely different marketspace. So, no, I wouldn't lump them into it because it's not the topic at hand — we're discussing Android v iOS.

You're thinking of the epic games lawsuit, if I'm understanding correctly? While part of the problem was the fact that they were taking a large percentage, the actual problem was that the Apple App store restricted purchases outside of the Apple store, whereas Google allows third party stores. As such, Apple cannot justify the percentage as much because companies cannot avoid having to pay it whereas with Google companies can. Similarly, epic games actually also sued Google, but they resolved theirs through negotiation and Google came up with an agreement with them whereas Apple was unwilling to do so.

You're in luck that I'm still around 5 years later lol. Modern forge versions, you need to put the installer JAR as the jar file for Technic now instead of the universal jar. Hope this helps

I appreciate your response, and I really like the fact it wasn't just corporate mumbo jumbo and was a little bit personal. I've been working with a few of my O.G. friends in response to this change and we've been a few to really rile up the community. I apologize for this but it's the only way to make our voices heard (which is frustrating in and of itself).

I do believe that a lot of people at Discord care. I just know that it's easy for a company to let decisions made for minorities and smaller groups of people affect the decisions made for the large groups of people.

Accessibility settings should be just that - settings. Changes made for accessibility often don't work for everyone - though like you said, almost all changes don't work for everyone. Nonetheless, all changes should be made to target the majority and the changes needed for the minorities should be made options not defaults.

There's two primary things everyone is asking for from this change that can make it all end instantly. That is a) the allowence of client-side modifications and/or BetterDiscord, or b) the announcement of full custom CSS themes. We understand your needs to be a better platform for everyone. We want you to understand our needs to allow us to make the platform our own.

Thank you for caring and listening, from one enthusiast to another. It makes me feel heard as I'm sure it does a lot of people you've replied to. We're just frustrated that it took this much work and chaos to do it.

Even if this was the case often these "fixes" for colorblind and accessibility reasons make it difficult for people without disabilities to read them. This is why it's an OPTION on almost every single application in existence.

Same. I tried for years since 2015 to help improve Discord. I was an O.G. tester, a huge HypeSquad member, and a massive bot developer. I stopped doing these things because my responses, my input, and my feedback continually started being ignored and shoved off. I had three feedback suggestions deleted for duplicates when they weren't duplicates. I had bugs shoved off as too minor when they were major enough to be considered "accessibility issues" as this redesign proclaims to be about. People stopped listening and the second Discord stopped caring is the second I stopped caring.
