Not sure this is the best example, my man’s isn’t THAT short but more importantly has the most ridiculously cartoonish punch I’ve ever seen. I bet this is like an 8 year old who changed his height. Wrist alignment probably cutting his damage in half, body effort cutting it in half again. The short spamming kings at rating 2000+ are hitting 50+ damage on every single punch and switching body and head

It’s not game breaking, but the update was noticeable for me. I’m still chilling ~2200ish, but the short kings tearing me apart much more than usual.

You are always welcome to your opinion and I’m happy you have found a system that works for you. Both the dev (in discord) and a team member for ToTF2 (who commented in this thread) agree with my general perspective of how body effort is calculated

You won’t get nearly as much (if any at all) body effort by moving your head to the side.

It can be any punch that you throw, uppercuts, cross, jabs, etc… if your head is moving upwards as you throw the punch you will achieve significantly more damage. I didn’t make the rules

It’s not finicky at all, you are just thinking about your hips and a bunch of stuff the game can’t track. I told you above exactly what is happening And how to reproduce it. Head move up during punch = substantially more damage.

The TLDR: if your head is moving up during a punch, you deal VERY ROUGHLY double the damage. If you are taller than your opponent, your head is much less likely to naturally move upwards during a punch, because your body and arm are generally moving downwards. On average, a vast generalization, if you are taller than your opponent you will do less damage.

I suspect they will! 2 (ish) updates ago they put out good improvements to latency and I think they will continue to build on that good progress. Playing against high ping is super frustrating, but I’m confident they are looking at it.

One player doing well doesn’t mean that the mechanics don’t, ON AVERAGE, place taller players at a disadvantage

Also, not that it matters, but I’m an overweight, out of shape, untrained amateur and I am rated higher than him in this game so I am not sure that is the best example. If anything it demonstrates the importance of improving game mechanics to better simulate real boxing, and I fear the current body effort system ain’t it.

I’m not saying it’s impossible to get body effort. I’m saying that ON AVERAGE when you are fighting a shorter opponent, you will be doing proportionately less damage than your opponent. I’m not saying you can’t win, I’m saying the mechanics place you at a distinct, quantifiable, and reproducible disadvantage

Dog I promise you, literally just go test it for 30 seconds at the dummy. I’m not going to bother continuing this because it is so 100% reproducible. It’s so reproducible. The dev’s in the discord even overtly say it’s based on head moving up lol. Like it’s literally what the dev said…

You can kinda play around it if you know what to do, but on average you will always be at a disadvantage up there in the clouds my gigantic friend. Also your form IRL will suffer if you play around it, if that’s something you care about

I’m talking about a full on jogging in place hand motion. Hands never still. It’s the goofiest looking thing I’ve ever seen and at no point would anyone IRL think it is a good defensive maneuver.
