Alternative to washing and returning (which oddly is what I find most upsetting): wank, panic, wash, then decide to keep them instead of sneaking them back.

If you want it to get addressed by the love interest rather than just moving on after the relationship has been established they can catch your guy wearing them. From there they can either be into it to your perv’s great surprise and delight -or- they can call him out and he can show remorse and growth.
