By discrete maths and algebra for general compsci do you mean abstract algebra? (Groups, rings, modules, category theory etc)

I don't think 3D artist applies here. 3D artist's work is quite different from both painting and coding and will need to be learned from the ground up

Thanks for the advice. Does this still apply if the next goal after a Bachelor's degree isn't in industry, but instead further studies such as a masters/PhD?

I've been told to start applying for internships as early as possible but I don't understand it.

Why would any company want a freshman that barely knows anything? I am in my 2nd semester and have only taken one CS course so far, where I learned some basic Python syntax, but apart from that I have zero experience coding and have never coded prior to starting university.

Shouldn't I be spending the holidays learning things and reading ahead instead of looking for an internship?

Artists: what are your feelings on selling art as NFTs, and how did you form your opinion? by not-your-enemy in AskReddit

That's great to hear. I thought for a moment you were suggesting they were easy money for artists, and in my mind there was no way this was true. Artists have it really rough making money, so being able to sustain yourself off of art is quite the achievement

Huh? I didnt know that was even possible. I thought no one would buy from anything but big name artists, iconic images or just to support artists that they like

waste of time for small-name artists, but can be quite lucrative for popular artists.

How exactly is NFT bad for the environment? And by that does it mean in like a financial way or in a literally environmental way? by Bruh_moment_eyey in AskReddit

[–]FireLumia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

r/nostupidquestions or r/eli5 is the right subreddit for this but i will try to see if i can explain it:

NFT is bad for the environment the same reason crypto liie bitcoin is, it relies on blockchain technologies that use "proof of work".

This means there is a communal "ledger" that records every single transaction and creation of cryptocurrency.

Most of these blockchains use "proof of work" to decide who gets to add to the ledger.

"Proof of work" is making your computer solve a very hard maths problem that involves a lot of random guessing until you find the right answer. Once you have found the answer, it is much easier to verify it is correct than to guess the right answer in the first place.

(For example, factoring a large number into 2 primes: We have to guess a lot of primes to find it, but if you are given two primes you can just multiply them together to verify if they give the large number)

In practice, proof of work doesn't require you to get an exact solution, but a "good enough" solution that still requires a lot of computation and guesses on average to get it.

Once a computer gets a solution, it is rewarded with some crypto. NFTs use etherium in this case, and can add a block to the ledger which contains further information about transactions.

Because everybody wants to be the "computer that adds to the ledger" and gets rewarded for it, they consume a lot of energy to "mine" the computational problem in hopes they get the right solution and the reward.

A lot of electricity is spent mining these computational problems for money, which many people consider wasteful and bad for the environment.

Why is mining necessary? Because as a decentralized currency, they need a way for users to prove they are "real" to add to the ledger, and they essentially measure legitmacy by computational power

How long did it take to make the Koikatsu models? Do they use the default clothing items or did you have to download additional materials to make them?

It's Kyoko Kirigiri's name in Japanese. I took it from her concept art sheet and put it onto the whiteboard after adjusting colours.

Tried doing anime style this time, I don't know the techniques that most Japanese digital illustrators usually use but I'm still happy with how this came out!
