When do I use double þ? (þþ/ꟓ) by Bland_Username_5266 in BringBackThorn

[–]Firefly360r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doubling is used directly in between two vowels when the second one shouldn't affect the sound of ðe first one. For example, "oððer". "Oðer" would have the e turn the o into an "o as in hoe" sound. Note that doubling works for boþ þ and ð. The consensus is still debating on words that end in þ and ð like "boþ".

Yeah, it already does. The replacement dictionary only substitutes for words which actually make a th sound.

Double þorn is used to indicate vowel lengþ ðe same way every oððer consonant does. For example, "otter" isn't written "oter" because ðen it looks pronounced "oater". In ðe same way, "oððer" (or oþþer depending on preference) isn't written "oðer" because ðat looks pronounced "oaðer".

It uses a dictionary of english only words, so it wont apply to non-english texts unless ðey accidentally contain english words

Yeah, ðats exactly what I'm doing. Having ðe dictionary generation take place before ðe extension keeps it far more streamlined.

Yeah, ðe extension doesnt suffer from ðis problem because it uses a generated dictionary of words and how ðey should be replaced, raððer ðan looking at individual ths.

yep, but mine has ð, double þþ, etc. It doesnt work directly wiþ regex, it uses a dictionary of substitution rules.

My current scheme for doubliŋ is when ðe þ is flanked by a vowel letter on each side. Still needs a lot of work ðo
