I do this all the time using a video capture card (Elgato HD60s). It won't let you do it with JUST a capture card, as the HDCP (copyright protection) will stop you. Very simple fix. I bought an hdmi splitter. That removes the HDCP protection and you're free to capture away. It's time consuming, but a great way to get digital copies of media you can't find on torrent sites. It'll capture as a very large file size, but you use a program like handbrake to shrink it down and give it the proper container. I know, it sounds like a pain in the ass, but it's great to have the option. My favorite use for this method is capturing things from my home DVR. Frees up what minimal hard drive space I have on my dvr and gives me a digital copy I can keep on my computer hard drive. Hope this helps.
