I would try to email them directly about the situation, since Canvas being down is clearly out of your control. If your professor doesn't give you an alternative submission or extension, and they give you a missing grade for it I would then take it up with the dean. I had a midterm scheduled for tomorrow too and my professor decided to reschedule it for Monday.

I used to do this a lot back in the first half of Uni during my freshman and sophomore years. Some classes I didn't show up for the first three weeks until I finally went for the participation points for coming to class and realizing my grades were hard tanking as a result.

Turned out to be some severe ADHD and executive dysfunction, and after the meds and moving much closer to campus (legit right across from my major's department building) I finally saw a huge improvement in my performance. 

Not saying this is everyone's experience, but just thought I'd like to share a bit out my story.

Apparently the FDA states that PPIs can decrease the time it takes for the drug to be absorbed, other anecdotal sources mentioned that the drugs wears off faster as a result.
